Windows 10: Windows 10 updates

Using Windows 10 Home, I did not know that updates were automatic. This year 2 updates have put my desktop into a freeze mode after only 33% downloaded. But for the fact that I had made backups, I would have been in serious trouble with my desktop. As it was, it was very scary, because I was unsure that, in each case, my backups would work. I want some method whereby I can choose not to have updates installed automatically, because I do not want these serious freezing situations to happen again.

The other question is, why does the update cause the freezing? I have a perfectly good PC, and drivers and devices are all up-to-date.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Well just noticed a pretty large one pop up coming in at 914MB, seems it makes some pretty serous updates.
