Windows 10: Windows 10 upgrade - Error 0x8007042b - 0x4000D

I've been trying to update my Windows 10 installation (1803) to 1903, and having tried a lot of things I'm totally stuck. It gets to about 80% complete in the second boot phase, but then always rolls back the update. The last thing I tried was an installation from an ISO image on a USB stick, which gave me the following error:





A few more details:

1. I have a Dell G3 laptop, which is one year old.
2. I have 24Gb of space on my OS drive.
3. I've run the Windows Update Troubleshooter multiple times, and each time it finds problems. Each time I've asked it to apply fixes, then done a restart, but it makes no difference.
4. I've run the DISM and SFC commands as indicated in other threads. No difference.
5. I've started in safe mode and removed the Windows/SoftwareDistribution folder contents, as indicated in other threads. No difference.

Right now I can't see any way to update my laptop. Scrubbing it and installing a totally fresh install of 1903 isn't an option, as there's a huge overhead of reinstalling apps and data.

just started to research this...

0x8007042B - 0x4000D failed in the second boot phase with an error in the migrate_data option

the worst part is, the restore messed up my computer ... have an error with windows\system32\rasadhlp.dll file and the online help doesn't repair it.

should i try to get the update to work and hope that fixes the dll problem?

i'm gonna do a clean boot and reinstall it and see if that works.

... and it worked. I forgot the clean boot upgrade/update trick til I saw it... I had to do it to upgrade from 7 to 10.

 

Windows 10 Anniversary Update Error Code 0x8007042B-0x4000D

I had the same issue on a laptop. I assumed, that a virus scanner could be the reason. I made the upgrade from 1511 to 1607-Windows on several pc with Norton Security or Mcafee. I deactivated the software before upgrading - and it worked.

In this case Avast free Virus Scan was installed on the laptop. I deactivated it before upgrading, but this was not enough. I got the error code 0x8007042B-0x4000D in the second boot during migrate_data operation.

After that I deinstalled Avast and tried again - with success.

I heard, that Kaspersky Internet Security causes similar errors during the upgrade.

I got the same error when I try to update insider version 14931 to 14946. I doesn't want to make clean install, because I have really lot of applications in my PC!
