Windows 10: Windows 10 upgrade error 0xc1900101-0x30018 is back.

That the problem @Lee if it is just going to be a free upgrade for windows 7 users and not allow a clean install. This 10041 64 bit didn't install. @BunnyJ said MS could of changed the hardware requirements for this new build and he had to buy hardware which you shouldn't need to do. Which will keep more people from upgrading. I did a clean install in a vm, installed firefox and then it stopped working. So, the 64 bit build doesn't work in vm, so most likely it won't do a clean install on my system. Microsoft whole point is to be able to upgrade windows 7 to 10 without having to do a clean install, that how Microsoft will do other releases from the way I understand windows 10 as a service, which is a little scary. So much for it being free if you have to buy new hardware or upgraded memory to get it or you have you buy the 32 bit version to get 10 to work. Back to my issue, I will be trying the 32 bit version of windows 10 in a vm to see if I get the same crash. I still don't know if the 32 bit will work.

 

I get a daily newsletter from Newegg. This morning they listed a 250gig refurb HDD for $20.
For $20 you can save yourself a lot of blood, sweat and tears!
Order a drive, download the ISO for 10041 from WinUpdate, pull your present HDD, install the refurb, clean install the ISO and check it out, THOROUGHLY.............. before you do anything else!

If I have to buy anything to get windows 10 it is not free. My point is you shouldn't have buy anything to upgrade to 10 period.

So far windows 32 bit is working in the vm. I think they increased the memory requirement above 4 gb for 64 bit machine. Next test, is a clean install on partition two. Posted from vm.

 

The OS is still free,... just because you hardware may have issues with it doesn't mean it's not free. I think you might have to just run one OS on your PC.. q: are you trying to dual boot with Linux?? If so you might want to just run Windows and see how things go with WIn10.

 

Dual booting wouldn't be the problem. The way I currently have it set up, it would be impossible for windows to interfere with Linux and vise-verse, I know this from my own experience. I didn't say the operating system wasn't free. I guess I didn't word it correctly. Let try it this way, you shouldn't have to have additional cost to upgrade to windows 10.

 

Well,, I guess that it's up to you now to figure out what's wrong with the process of upgrading to Win10. IMO, the best way to get to the problem is to eliminate as many things that might interfere with trying to get to the root of the problem. And to be totally honest, I don't know why you want to run Linux when Windows does everything you should need to do. Linux is fine for more experienced users and not for an average user like you.
