Windows 10: Windows 10 upgrade from Microsoft store results in non genuine license?

i recently upgraded my windows 10 home license to pro by purchasing an upgrade license through the microsoft store. it initially worked but my windows 10 OS reported it was using "windows 10 enterprise". I thought it was a weird mis-type or something and logged off. I logged on to the computer the next day and it says "your license is not genuine".


I tried rebooting the PC and running the troubleshooter, the troubleshooter failed and rebooting had no effect. I am not sure what else to do besides resetting the PC and I am not interested in going that route right now. Has anyone else had this issue with upgrades from the Microsoft store?

"With Windows 10, although non-Genuine PCs may be able to upgrade to Windows 10, the upgrade will not change the genuine state of the license. Non-Genuine Windows is not published by Microsoft. It is not properly licensed, or supported by Microsoft or a trusted partner. If a device was considered non-genuine or mislicensed prior to the upgrade, that device will continue to be considered non-genuine or mislicensed after the upgrade."

The problem is we don't know what that means in practice. My personal guess is that it'll be the same as it is now: provide a legit key or you can only use the system for xx days. What is sure is that it won't be a legit installation. Release is still some time away though, things can change.

If you upgraded to Windows 10 for free and ended up in a non-activated state, try following these steps:

• Go to Start

• Select Go to Store, and check to see if a valid license is available for your device. If a license isn't available, you'll need to buy Windows from the Store.

or you could hack it with a crack but please note this is always risky and you don't know what's in the hack

I won't buy a key, stupid.

I'll revert back to windows 7 then.

When I still was on windows 7, about a year ago I added 4GB extra ram which is a total of 8GB now,
is that causing the problem?
