Windows 10: Windows 10 Upgrade Stuck at 46%

Hello,

I have been having issues upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. When I run MediaCreatonTool20H2.exe, usually the Windows 10 install gets stuck at 46% on the "Getting Updates" screen. I've tried following guides on the issue, but they haven't helped in solving the issue.

Windows 10 upgrade gets stuck at 46%

I've been trying to upgrade to Windows 10 for the last 2 days. I first used the disk I purchased and all went well until the updating part. It then gets stuck at 46% and won't go any further - i left it overnight and still no progress.

I went onto support and tried downloading a copy, again everything went fine until the updating part, where it again got stuck at 46%

Any suggestions gratefully received

We understand your concern as you having difficulties in upgrading the PC to Windows 10, as it stuck at 46%. In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below.

• What is the make and model of the PC?
  
• What is the Windows version and edition currently installed on the PC?
  
• What is the Windows 10 version to which you are trying to upgrade?

Meanwhile, we would suggest you to perform a
Software and Hardware clean boot. Put the PC in software clean boot, refer the article

How to perform a clean boot in Windows. A ‘clean boot’ starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs.



Note: After you finish troubleshooting, follow the section
Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting
to reset the computer to start normally.



Steps to perform hardware clean boot.

1. Press Windows key + R. This will open
   Run. Alternatively, you can go to Start and search for
   Run.
   
2. In Run dialog box, type devmgmt.msc and hit
   Enter.
   
3. Now expand the Display adapters,
   Printers, Sound, video and game controllers.
   
4. Now right click on the drivers inside the section and click on
   Disable.
   
5. If asked for restart click on restart later and disable all the drivers.
   
6. Close the device manager window and then restart the PC.

Once the above steps are completed, then try upgrading the system using the downloaded ISO of Windows 10.

Windows Update stuck at 46%

• How are you trying to update Windows?
  
• Are you trying to update the computer from an older version of Windows like Windows 7 or Windows 8.1?
  
• Which build version of Windows 10 is installed on the computer? To check type:
  winver in the search bar on the Taskbar and hit
  Enter.
  
• What is the make and model of the computer?
  

I would suggest you to try running the Windows Update troubleshooter and see if that helps. Refer the article

Windows Update Troubleshooter.



If the issue persists, I would suggest you to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the article

Troubleshoot problems updating Windows 10 and see if that helps.
