Windows 10 Upgrade was bad ! Clean install was great!

I know that microsoft had no choice. Not every person out there can do a clean install. Too complicated setting up all.
But from my experience the upgrade from 8.1 was a disaster. Many errors in event viewer, Slow system and slow boot time, failed windows updates ...etc

Tonight I did a clean install after my update and all went smooth. Windows was activated when I got to desktop and surprisingly windows update did it's job correctly this time. No failed updates at all. The system is now fast and I find windows 10 to be a great upgrade to 8.1

I was thinking that it would be too early to go for a clean install as maybe I should wait for all hardware vendors to get their drivers ready. But to my surprise all drivers were already installed with windows.

So if you have a nice new computer my advice would be to do a clean install and not stick with the upgrade! *Wink

    :)

  2. windows 10 was great until it was junk

I think we all agree that Windows 8 was a total flop and not worth griping about anymore. Then 10 came along and I thought, great! Back to the functionality that I want from Windows and I can keep using my computer like I NEED to. A computer is like an
appendage these days, it’s like an organ that we can hardly function without. My relief at windows 10 was huge. But then…

First, my CPU jumps to 100% even though I’m not doing anything. After about an hour, I find a youtube video that shows me how to get into the registry and disable 2 items that “improve my experience” but instead made my experience terrible. Okay, sure,
there’s a hiccup. I can deal. Then… just after an update that I have no control over (thanks for that, Microsoft) half my keyboard stopped working. No amount of searching gave me a solution. All I get in the community responses here is copypasta from a
virtual rep about reinstalling drivers. Thanks, that helped me as much as a punch in the face helps a guy with a heart attack. Also, I can’t use shift or control to group files anymore. Just another kick to the groin. Now I have a USB keyboard on top of
my mostly useless laptop keyboard, but it occasionally hits one of the functional keys and makes me want to cry because this is so stupid. Maybe it was a motherboard issue that just happened to occur after the update, but Dell didn’t do anything for me except
bounce me through 4 different service groups until I came full circle. Sweet. I have a half functional laptop and I look like a tool in the coffee shop.

I guess Microsoft was so busy building in data collection that they forgot functionality should be priority 1. Sure, everyone else slurps up my data and I grudgingly accept it. Google knows more about me than I do, but their products deliver. So I deal
with it and don’t care all that much. It’s the world we now live in.

Apple has always bugged me with their smug act of superiority and I can’t even begin to describe how much I hate the term ‘Genius Bar’. But, what other option do I have? Back to back crappy operating systems and forced updates that almost ruin my computer
put me just to the point of throwing this thing in the trash.

You’re losing us Microsoft. And once we’re gone, we aren’t coming back.

Windows 10 pro clean install possible if was activated using a KMS key?

I'd wait and see if you get a response from Andre Da Costa. He seems to have a wealth of knowledge about these things. Windows 10 Upgrade was bad ! Clean install was great! :)

A clean install is always going to be better than an upgrade. If you haven't already be sure to check your PC/motherboard manufacturer's website and download any upgraded drivers (e.g. chipset driver).

  5. Here is the rub. The product key needed for a clean install is stored on the motherboard. With Win8.1 and most newer mobos, this is not a problem and a clean install will activate. It gets more complicated with Win7 and/or older hardware and a clean install may not activate on its own. See the forum post here before taking the plunge:

Yes, a clean install will be great I assume. I am going to do that hereafter.

When changing to a new version I usually do a clean install on a formatted drive.
Way, way back, Windows NT-time, I learned a so-called 'upgrade' usually ends up with errors and software not working properly.
Except for buying off the shelf, MS did not offer any other option but do an upgrade.
The Windows 10-upgrade is working now and activated, but I guess, same as in the old days, it is much better to do a clean install as the eventlog simply shows too many errors.

    Errors like:

Counter 18 of instance ({CD376BD3-9F6B-48C0-840E-1816B7A50FDC}, Standaard, 0) could not be modified. Error: "87"

The Open Procedure for service "WmiApRpl" in DLL "C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\wmiaprpl.dll" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the error code.

Windows cannot load the extensible counter DLL rdyboost. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the Windows error code.

Unable to open the Server service performance object. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the status code.

The Open Procedure for service "MSDTC" in DLL "C:\WINDOWS\system32\msdtcuiu.DLL" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the error code.

The Open Procedure for service "Lsa" in DLL "C:\Windows\System32\Secur32.dll" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the error code.

The Open Procedure for service "ESENT" in DLL "C:\WINDOWS\system32\esentprf.dll" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the error code.

The Open Procedure for service "BITS" in DLL "C:\Windows\System32\bitsperf.dll" failed. Performance data for this service will not be available. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the error code.

Disabled performance counter data collection for this session from the "ASP.NET_64_2.0.50727" service because the performance counter library for that service has generated one or more errors. The errors that forced this action have been written to the application event log.

Windows cannot open the 64-bit extensible counter DLL ASP.NET_64_2.0.50727 in a 32-bit environment. Contact the file vendor to obtain a 32-bit version. Alternatively if you are running a 64-bit native environment, you can open the 64-bit extensible counter DLL by using the 64-bit version of Performance Monitor. To use this tool, open the Windows folder, open the System32 folder, and then start Perfmon.exe.

Name resolution for the name win10.ipv6.microsoft.com. timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

The Host synchroniseren_Session2 service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 10000 milliseconds: Service opnieuw starten.

Session "ReadyBoot" stopped due to the following error: 3221225864

The NLS operation failed because the registry key Control Panel\International\User Profile cannot be opened. Error code is 2. Error message: Het systeem kan het opgegeven bestand niet vinden.

(some parts of the eventlog are the Dutch language, because the 'base' version of Windows is Dutch, but I installed the English language pack, tfore not all is translated.)

  8. Windows 10 Upgrade was bad ! Clean install was great!

Once again, everyone assumes that MS is giving away free copies of Retail Windows 10. That is simply mot the case. MS is letting Win8.1 users patch their Win8.1 computer to make it run a a copy of Win10 with very limited rights. If you want all that you are asking for, you need to BUY a copy of the full retail Win10 Pro product. Don't confuse the two, they are completely different in what you can do with them.

Do you find it necessary to use all caps ?

Your defense of MS in this post and others is tiresome. The OP's point is that it is more effective to do a clean install rather than an upgrade for a smoother transition.

MS is providing free upgrade for 1 year to promote their product. It is not a "patch" with "limited rights."

It is not a patch worth limited rights rights all. Know your facts before you spread false information. Thanks.

If I am not mistaken the upgrades are full products. After all, one may download the .iso file and, burn a DVD. Perform an upgrade with the DVD and -from what I read- do a clean install using the same DVD. I can install any version 7/8 version on my pc using the original media and license key.
Anyone having an official license key is entitled to a free upgrade.

My point is that bottom line all users are running a full Windows 10 version using a 7/8 license key.

Microsoft introduced this upgrade detour. Unnecessary from my point of view.
Their activation servers would have set to accept the 7/8 keys as both upgrade and retail keys.

Ah well, maybe one time in the near future they will take out this 'handicap' *Smile

I don't think that is the case with the upgrade. When you do a clean install, it asks you to manually enter a windows 10 key. To continue, you click "skip".

  14. Heh, it is the stored key on the mobo that let's do the skip.
