  1. Windows 10 USB Device Limit?

I have an odd issue that I have never seen before. When I plug in one more USB device, in this case a small 16gb flash drive, Windows 10 does not recognize it as a flash drive and in device manager it is an unknown device.

    Quick summary of the issue:
Plug in a USB device, flash drive in this instance, Windows says it is an unknown device. Unplug the flash drive and unplug another USB device and then reinsert the USB flash drive Windows recognize the device and can be used.

    Details of the issue:
I only use the rear mobo USB input for all my permanent devices, meaning I dont remove them that often, and use the top front USB port to plug in flash drives or phone etc. as it is easier to remove them from my pc. The mobo has 10 USB ports, 5x USB 2.0 and 5x USB 3.0; I currently use 4x USB 3.0 and 4x USB 2.0 ports. USB 2.0 connections: 2x USB cables that are used for USB-c and micro USB for phones and other devices so currently are just cables with nothing attached, 1x USB cable to the UPS, 1x USB connection to my keyboard. USB 3.0 connections: 3x hard drive enclosure, 1x USB mouse.

I have 3 JBOD 5-hdd enclosures and with my current HDD layout (internal and external) I have taken 24 volume letters that Windows assign to drives (this also includes one BD-RW drive that takes up the default D drive letter).

I notice the issue when I bought a new UPS and plugged in the USB cable from the UPS to use the software to shut down my PC if the battery is being used when the power goes out. I wanted to plug in a USB flash drive to my PC to obtain some files, Windows Explorer didnt show the flash drive, and so I checked the device manager and it said the flash drive is an unknown device. When I unplug my UPS USB cable and reinsert or use device manager to scan for hardware changes the flash drive shows up in Windows Explorer and I can access the flash drive, I plug back in the UPS USB cable that now becomes an unknown device.

I thought it might have to do with my limit of volume letters being used, so I decided to remove my BD-RW drive and boot up my PC and without reducing the amount of USB devices plugged in, I inserted in my USB flash drive and it still came up as an unknown device.

Has anyone ever experienced this before?
Is there a limit to how many USB devices Windows can recognize?
Any possible solution suggestions would be appreciated.

Here is some of my PC spec if it is something you may need to know:
    Windows 10 Pro 64-bit version 2004 OS Build:19041.450
    Intel i7 5930k (stock specs)
    Gigabyte x99 mobo
    32GB DDR4 of RAM

    :)

  2. Windows 10 USB boot

Hi there, am not a windows 10 expert. I have a pc in the bedroom on windows 10, I messed up the bootloader trying to fix the xp on that system.

System wont boot, trying to repair via win 10 usb installer.

Downloaded the media creation tool to install windows 10 installer on usb stick. Not compatible with a host of usb sticks I have. Tried the usb sticks that others use, but I think they use rufus; as the media creation tool by win 10 does not detect the usb stick.

So quick question, the win10 machine i am trying to repair the bootloader is a win7 upgraded to win10.
If i were to use the usb win10 installer to "repair installation" does the version of the iso downloaded via the media creation tool matter?

    There is three options:
    Windows 10
    Windows 10 Home
    Windows 10 N

Also is there a step by step instead of using rufus as I want to try an alternative method of creating a usb win 10 installer. Preferably with more compatibility.

    System is a asus sabertooth 990 (r2?) with AMD phenom X 6.

Also is there any other software I can load onto the usb that can repair the bootloader easily?
That would be the ideal alternative. Thanks

    Multi-bootable USB

Hey guys from TPU, couldn't find any specific thread pertaining to the question asked on title. As mentioned, I'm trying to create a bootable USB, but with many specifics boots available.

I've been trying to create one with multiple boot device including one that enables me to run Windows 10 directly on the USB Thumb Drive but to no avail.

The list of bootable images i'm trying to create are

    1. Windows 10 (A full OS running from thumb drive)
    2. Windows 10 ISO (Bootable disk image for fresh install)
    3. MemTest86+

Have tried YUMI or UUI from the website USB PenDrive Linux but as this is my first time, i don't know how am i screwing up or am doing it right.. Anyone got a rough idea on a step by step guide? Thanks!
