Windows 10: Windows 10 v 1909 update really broke many things

What can I do to stop Microsoft Windows 10 updates from reverting to obsolete 2006 drivers that don’t work. I wish I had been warned rather than encouraged to update to this Windows 10 v 1909:


1. 1. Removed my ATI Radeon Graphics Catalyst Control Center drivers that I previously and tediously fixed to run in Win 7 compatibility mode, worked great with extended monitor and full screen resolution, both monitors at 1920x1080 and replaced it with a 2006 generic PnP driver that at best can be set to 1280x1024, with Win 10 ‘recommended’ 1024x768. ****? Now I have two duplicate monitors, not extended and both with very poor resolution.


2. 2. No sound again. I had this all fixed and now I need to learn a new system of where new programmers shove settings if I can even fix what you broke. Now my Windows PC doesn’t see any input or output devices and is a silent hulk. Ain’t that nice!


3. 3. Changed ‘downloads’ folder settings to group by date I figured out how to fix this by selecting ‘none’ in groups. Why did you think I needed you to change that?


4. 4 Changed several default programs. Hey hey!!! I know what I want, please don’t tell me what default programs I want.


5. 5. If/when I get the sound fixed, I want to see if 1909 fixed the latency issue causing my bzzzt sound and video stutter, which despite the enormous resources many have put into it, it was still broken.


6. 6 Until now the drivers I had fixed no, not 2006 versions and had kept in place by setting Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Device Installation > Device Installation Restrictions to keep you from messing with me. Now 1909 over rode all these administrator settings and destroyed what had been working. Really nice touch!!


7. If I go to Windows Update and have it roll back, will this work to get me back to where I was yesterday before updating to 1909 today?



I wish Microsoft wouldn’t be so very labor intensive just to keep it working. I appreciate updates for security, but I assure you I do not need enhancements to an operating system. And certainly don’t need things like degraded resolution, removal of my extended monitor and silencing all sound which is what I will work on after posting this.



Now, how do I at least get full resolution 1920x1080 even if I can’t have extended monitors which in Win 10 was possible until 1909 came along?

Windows 10 1909 Causes Secondary Hard Drive to not be Recognized

Installing the Windows 10 1909 Update causes my secondary hard drive to not be recognized.

Steps to confirm issue:

• Secondary drive not visible in Windows Explorer
• Secondary drive not visible in device manager
• Secondary drive not visible in disk manager

Steps to replicate issue:

• Installing 1909 update

Steps to resolve issue:

• Uninstall 1909 update

Since updates can only be delayed for so long, an actual fix would be appreciated.

 

Windows 10 1909 broke Bluetooth drivers

User.000 issue after updating to 1909

I'm one of the many people suffering from issues with user profiles after applying Update 1909 to Windows 10. I've read all the threads I can find on the topic here and have followed the suggestions, all to no avail. Any other thoughts are appreciated.

After applying Update 1909, the ProfileImagePath was changed to c:\users\User.000
One file that was always in use and couldn't be removed was left in c:\users\User (can't recall or find the exact file now), so I could never rename or remove the c:\user\User directory.

I followed the multiple suggestions from Brink and others:

• Rebooted at least 6 times
• Enabled hidden Administrator
• Booted into Safe Mode
• Changed ProfileImagePath
• Tried to rename c:\users\User but couldn't because a file was still in use
• Copied all data from c:\users\User.000 into c:\users\User
• Rebooted and had temporary profile
• Followed steps in Brink tutorial to change ImageProfilePath; rebooted with no change
• Restored using Restore Point from before Update 1909 - returned to single profile state (User.000)
• Removed each update that was installed individually and rebooted after each update removal - profile state never changed
• After all updates were removed, repeated the steps above with hidden Administrator, changing profile, etc. - same issue with file in use in c:\users\User
• Followed all steps above with hidden Administrator but without copying files from User.000 to User - same results

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
