Windows 10 version 1809 available for "advanced users"

The latest feature update for Windows 10, Windows 10 version 1809 -- The October 2018 Update -- is now available for "advanced users" according to Microsoft.

Microsoft started the rollout of the feature update in early October 2018 but pulled it from Windows Update and other updating tools shortly thereafter because of a data loss bug.

A large number of other issues came to light in the weeks that followed the retraction of the update: users reported audio issues and bluescreens, issues with fonts, mapped network drives, or Intel display drivers.

It took Microsoft six weeks to restart the rollout of Windows 10 version 1809 in November 2018. The company released a cumulative update for the version of Windows 10 in December that addressed additional bugs and issues.

On December 17, 2018, Microsoft announced that the October 2018 Update for Windows 10 is available for a wider audience again. The feature update is still blocked for a number of configurations or devices, e.g. for devices with AMD Radeon HD2000 and HD4000 graphic processor units, devices with TrendMicro security software that run older versions of the software, or devices with certain Intel display driver versions.

Microsoft notes the following on the Update History page of Windows 10 version 1809:

Rollout Status as of December 17, 2018: Windows 10, version 1809, is now fully available for advanced users who manually select “Check for updates” via Windows Update.

A click on "check for updates" in the Settings application may deliver the October 2018 Update to the device running Windows 10. Devices with update blocks in place won't receive the update at this point in time.

Microsoft revealed recently that "check for updates" is for advanced users only; manual update checks may install preview updates on Windows devices according to Microsoft.

    Should you update?

Users who run Windows 10 may wonder whether they should wait a bit longer with the update or update right away.

I suggest to wait a bit longer with the update; Microsoft stated that it has made available the update again for advanced users.; the company will roll out the update automatically to devices soon but did not reveal when; you can block feature updates if you prefer to remain in control.

It is highly recommended that you create a backup of the system before you click on the check for updates button; if things go wrong, and they may very well, you can restore the previous version using the backup. You can download and install feature updates for Windows 10 directly as well without using Windows Updates.

    WMP for version 1809...

My Windows 10 N, version 1803 had used Windows Media Player via installing it from the "Windows_MediaFeaturePack_x64_1803.msu" file.

Updating to 1809 removed the WMP and no longer available in the apps list:

There's an updated version listed at:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...ows-n-editions

But clicking on the link and looking for the 1809 in the drop down list of versions does not show the media feature pack available for download for 1809; instead it shows version 1709 and 1803.

Does anyone have a direct link to WMP for Windows 10 N, version 1809?

    TIA...

Comodo Software users Windows 10 *Important*

Windows 10 version 1809 available for "advanced users" capture-jpg.jpg

    "Hi All,
We stronly advise Comodo users not to update to latest MS update KB4022716, which is available for Windows 10 users till they have new fixed version of Comodo internet security products installed.

    Affected Products:
    - Comodo Internet Security / Comodo Antivirus / Comodo Firewall (Affected versions: v6246 and below)
    - Comodo Cloud Antivirus (Affected versions: v533 and below)
    - Internet Security Essentials (Affected versions: v81 and below)
    - Comodo Secure Shopping (Affected versions: v97 and below)

    Possible Problems:
In case you have updated to MS update KB4022716 prior to updating to latest fixed version of Comodo products, following issues may appear:

    - Crashing browsers
    - May not be able to login to Windows

    Resolution:
If you are able to login, you can uninstall Comodo and re-install latest fixed Comodo version. Else you need to go to Windows Safe Mode and uninstall Comodo product or re-store system to state before Comodo product was installed.

In case you want to keep Comodo and pause Windows updates for some time, you may use following steps:
Step - 1: Click on Start icon on Windows
Step - 2: Next click on Settings menu item, it will open "Windows Settings" window
Step - 3: Select "Update & Security" section from there and it will show "Windows Update" section
Step - 4: Click on "Advanced Options" next, there is "Pause Updates" section allowing you to pause Windows updates for next several days

You can find same steps with images here .

    Reason:
There are unexpected changes in last MS update KB4022716, which are incompatible with Comodo products.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
