Windows 10: Windows 10 Version 20H2 DVD-R issue?

I recently installed Windows 10 ver. 20H2 on my desktop and it will not recognize a blank DVD-R disk. Seems to work with DVD+R. A second computer in the house is running Windows 10 ver. 2004 with the same device driver and it recognizes the blank DVD-R. Is there a known issue and/or fix with 20H2 and DVD-R disks?

Hi,

I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 a few weeks ago and since that time I don't have a DVD – R drive. I still have my DVD – RW, but the other drive is missing from the device manager and the computer list. What happened to it? What steps can I take to recover it.

I just tweaked it a little to minimize registry edits, added a backup, and documented the steps from start to finish.

 

Unable to play DVDs in Windows 10

I suggest you to update the DVD/CD drivers from the steps provided below and check if the issue persists:

• Press “Windows key + R” and type “devmgmt.msc”.
• Right click on DVD/CD Roms from the list and select
  properties.
• Under Driver tab click on Update button and follow the prompts to update the driver.

Also, can download and install the latest version of the drivers for DVD/CD from the manufacturer website.
