Windows 10: Windows 10 volume mixer automatically mutes one of my media players

I recently had to reinstall Windows 10 due to a hard drive failure. I'm once again on Windows 10 1909, build 18363.693 and my Realtek audio drivers are current.


Prior to the hard drive dying, I preferred to use Winamp so I reinstalled it. This time, Windows is showing some unusual behavior. Whenever I try to play a file of any type on Winamp, Windows' volume mixer mutes it.


Has anyone heard of this kind of behavior before? Nobody on the Winamp forums can help, so I'm wondering where the driver conflict can be coming from.


Edited: I tried the solutions posted at https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-to-fix-volume-mixer-is-muting-programs/fb8dfc52-e9b3-4c7f-b279-544482342261 and they don't work for me.

System Sound interact with Media Player

1) Right click on Sound Icon

2) Click on Open Volume Mixer

3) Mute system sound only

- This will mute your system sound and not the media player sound

thanks for the reply but that doesn't help, i dont want systems sounds muted, i want the media player volume slider to be separate from the volume mixer slider

 

Volume Mixer not showing muted app

The application was muted on Windows 10 with November update. Now I am using Anniversary update, on build 14393.10

The initial step did not help make Banished show up in the Volume Mixer, nor did the article.
