  1. Windows 10 VPN server appears to be listening but not connecting with a GRE protocol 47 error.

For no reason I can identify, my PPTP W10 VPN server no longer accepts incoming connections. I consistently get the following Event ID 20209 Rasman message in Event Viewer.

A connection between the VPN server and the VPN client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx has been established, but the VPN connection cannot be completed. The most common cause for this is that a firewall or router between the VPN server and the VPN client is not configured to allow Generic Routing Encapsulation GRE packets protocol 47.

My router has VPN passthrough enabled and the router log says the request is being forwarded to port 1723. My Norton Online Security firewall has protocol 47 enabled. Yesterday, with netstat, I got the following result.

    netstat -an find "1723" /i
    TCP 0.0.0.0:1723 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING

However, today the same command returns nothing. Just a blank line with a blinking cursor.

I suspect this is related to an update installed while I was sleeping but cannot be certain.

    Any suggestions?

    Bob

    :)

Can't open VPN with mobile hotspot, error 806 - Windows 7

    Hey all.

So I have a VPN access to a network. but it doesn't work when I use my phone as a hotspot, but only on a specific machine, a Fujitsu T730 (Atheros AR2987). It runs a fully updated Windows 7 Pro. On a "normal" router it works just fine. The hotspot works on other machines, it's only on this one it doesn't work. I've tried Android and iOS, and the IP ranges are not conflicting with each other.

The error I get is 806, saying this:

The machine is clean, we only use it for one thing and that is troubleshooting/installing measuring equipment in electrical installations.

I've never used VPN's before, I have no idea where to even begin. It can't be firewalls/routers/switches or something because it works with other machines. Or at least I am assuming this. So any ideas are welcome!

    EDIT:

Uhh, the problem might be some software strangeness, as I know have connection problems all over the place. Currently I'm connected like this: property router -> managed switch -> dumb switch -> dumb switch (the last two being my workplace network) and it intermittently has no internet connection. The same goes for WiFi, which up to this point worked just fine. It connects to the network, but no internet. Everything else connected to the same network has internet access.

  3. VPN Server on Windows 10 not Working

Windows 10 uses the same method as the previous versions of Windows. However, Windows 10 appears to have a bug. It becomes clear when you do this:

    • Delete any existing incoming VPN connections.
    • Reboot the machine.
    • Create an incoming VPN connection.
    • Type this command in a Command Console:

netstat -a | find "1723"The command should report that the machine is listening on port 1723. Your VPN server is now working.
    • Shut down Windows, then restart it.
    • Try this command again:

      netstat -a | find "1723"

The command will probably report nothing about port 1723. Your VPN server is no longer working.
The problem appears to be caused by the Windows 7 "Fast Startup Option". You can disable it by following this path:

Control Panel / Power Options / Change what the power buttons do / Change settings that are currently unavailable / remove the mark from the Fast Startup tick box.

Your VPN server should now survive a reboot.

BTW - Multiposting is frowned upon in these forums because it leads to duplication of effort. I suggest you either remove
your duplicate post or include a link to this thread in it.

  4. Windows 10 VPN server appears to be listening but not connecting with a GRE protocol 47 error.

Need a vpn server for windows 2008 web

They're on seperate sites. The asa at one, a Windows Web server on the other.

I had tested the cisco vpn client in Windows xp 64bit. Most of the time it would fail to bring up the adapter it used for the VPN connection. 32 bit it was fine.

I'll be sure to try anyconnect as well. Thanks.

@jrracingfan. We want to be able to share files and services from one site to the other. So remote desktop would not work for this.
