  1. Windows 10, "We did not find the Disk Boot Time String in the Registry Key"

I received this ”Management Notification from the Security & Maintenance” message the day after installing the last Win 10 update update: Not sure if that is a coincidence or not:

Restart to Repair Drive Errors, Click to Restart”

I clicked the button to restart and it gave me the following quick two messages when it was finished:

“We did not find the DK Boot time string in the registry key.”

“Failure to reset Boot Time Execute Registry Key”

The system does boot up and except for being slow, it is fully operational.

    But, then I started getting:

Vol C: \Device Hard Disk Volume 2 needs to be taken off line to perform Full Chkdsk.

Please run chkdsk /F Locally via Command Line or Run “Repair Volume” drive locally or remotely via Power Shell”

I have done all of the above numerous times only to have it doing auto chdsk's everytime I boot up and followed by the same management Notification listed at the top.

So far I have have run

    DISM On line Check health.

    Results: No component store corruption

DISM Restore health Results: Completed Normally

SFC /Scannow Results: Did not find and integrity Violations.

I have tried the several Hard Drive Checking programs including the WD manufacturer and all return clean results.

I then tried “System Startup Repair” from the ISO disk, same results no problems found.

    I

tried to use System Restore and found the system will not let me in.

I also found I cannot get into system Defrag: Something to the effect that can not complete at this time. System is scheduled to Chkdsk on boot.

I also cannot get into my file backups

As a last resort I attempted a Windows Reset from the ISO disk and it failed, returning the message “There was a problem resetting your PC. No Changes were made”

I have totally exhausted everything I could find on-line and in the forum and I guess I need some heavy duty help.

My only alternative is to leave my PC on all the time or reject the disk Check every time I boot up. But, how long can I operate before the fragmentation takes me down and I have no backups either.

Can someone please point me in the right direction ?

Currently, I am running several Anti-Malware and Windows Defender in full mode just to make sure I didn’t miss anything.

    Thanks

    John

    :)

  2. Is it time for Windows 10 already?

Something similar happened to me. A fresh Win 10 64bit install on a newly added SATA disk.
I was running some tests, entered BIOS and manually selected my Windows 7 disk (instead of letting it boot normally to this same disk).
Instead of booting 7, it booted 10.
So, I pick a disk that has Windows 7 on it, and it boots the disk that has Windows 10 on it - despite 10 being on a completely different hard drive.

    Genius!

    Go back to 8.1

  3. windows 10 key

Thanks but I don't want to do any decrypting. I want to download a Win 10 ISO from Microsoft and install it using my Win 8 key. No other steps required. Is that possible?
