Windows 10: Windows 10: Who to remove 'This PC' and 'User' folder liks from desktop

Hi... by basic question is in the title.Fully question:I have a new Windows 10 System, and it came with 'This PC' and [My] 'User' folder sitting on the desktop.From my POV, these are just desktop clutter that I would never use, so I wanted to remove them.At first I thought these were simply shortcuts as with previous versions of Window.However, attempting to delete starts the process of deleting all content which I fortunately stopped when I realized what was happening.Does anyone know to get these off the desktop?

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

windows 10 deleted my desktop files

Step 1 - I upgraded to Win 10 and lost all my files on Desktop.

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

• Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
• Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
• Click on Users, select your User name
• Go to desktop folder

Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.

 

Desktop User folder in ThisPC has a Downloads icon.

1) Firstly, the problem is solved. See snips below.


2) I deleted the folders you suggested below. I would have deleted the "GUID-named values from the User Shell Folders registry key" earlier, but wasn't sure how to proceed after the red code error. Thank you for suggesting to continue to delete those.

[Then, you can safely delete the following GUID-named values from the User Shell Folders registry key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders]

3) After deleting the above, I still had the Desktop Folder in ThisPC with the Downloads icon. I went back to the Add/Remove through Add or Remove Folders from This PC - TenForumsTutorials, removed and added the Desktop Folder, and after restarting my laptop, everything was correct? I was a little hopeful when I tried it, but was surprised when everything fell into place and all folders were showing in ThisPC with the correct icons. I felt that this was my only recourse, after trying the many things that you had suggested.



4) I was unaware of the Read Only poisoned apple Microsoft had created Keith. I'm glad that I've not had to work with it!



5) I applied "Expand to Current Folder" per your suggestion, if you happen to read this Denis. Thank you for the tip.
