Windows 10: Windows 10 WIFI settings tab missing on my desktop pc

Hello.
I recently accepted an invitation to get free Windows 10. I was accepted and it seems to have installed just fine.

Right after installation I poked around in it and found "Settings" where, among other things, I found settings to stop "WIFI Sense" from running. This feature sounds like nonsense to me.

A week or so later I upgraded my wife's desktop to Windows 10, install worked. I decided to also turn off her "WIFI Sense" but I could not find the WIFI tab under "Settings", there is also no "Airplane" tab there.

Going back to my computer to see where WIFI tab is, I see that my computer also no longer displays the WIFI or Airplane tabs.

What is going on? M'soft playing with settings?

Neither computer displays the WIFI tab.

Is there no way to see that Wifi Sense is not going to operate on these two computers? We really don't need or want this feature.

Although that didn't help me in connecting to the wifi network, it at least got the wifi connections to show up again! Thank you!

That's super strange, I definitely have to say you have me stumped. Considering this started right when it reset the adapter to defaults, I'd do a quick undo back to before that point. Hopefully there's a restore point snapshot we can use to try it.

This restores backups of your registry and system settings, but doesn’t touch any of your files. It only takes a couple of minutes, and you can undo the process or try another date if it doesn’t fix the problem on the
first try. When you aren’t sure where to go, this is by far the safest, fastest, and easiest option to try first. This works best if you use it immediately after a problem shows up. Waiting more than a week or two means the good backups can be too outdated
to use.

• Press
  
  +R to show the Run box, type RSTRUI and click OK.
• Choose a date when the computer was working correctly, and click Next to restore the system files from that date.
• Check to see if the problem is fixed. If not, you can go back to step 1 to either undo the restore process, or try another date.

 

Same here. Now you see it (when 10 installed); now you don't. What gives?

 

It will do that if the drivers for the WIFI device is not installed.

 

Thanks. Makes sense. But how did my WIFI drive change its installation status? Could this be due to installing a new router?

 

It did that because you installed Windows 10. Even if you told it to keep files, app's, settings. 10 will still try to load the current drivers, just like 7 & 8 has done.

The good thing is that Windows 8/8.1 drivers will work with Windows 10.
