    Hi there

What's a Television". I'm sure I saw on some old House decorating program some sort of Monster flat Black window hanging off a wall and totally looking ridiculous in the room it was situated in.

I'm sure in about 5 years time youngsters will be thinking about a "Television" in the same way as the old Flexowriter (paper tape teletype) or a Telex machine.

TV is dead these days --pity the broadcasters haven't realised it yet.

Once we get decent Holographic projection (currently being worked on) the idea of having to use an ugly monstrous piece of Black glass to hideously ruin your room will seem just absurd.

    Cheers

You'll still need a black background (until someone learns how to project black).

Well, cable tv is indeed dead, but I think its more than 5 years before holographic image viewing becomes the norm..

At least I hope so, since it will take me that long to pay off that 75 inch monster that is sitting in my family room! *Huh

I don't see that we really need install DVDs any more. I have a laptop and a tablet that don't even have a DVD drive.

  11. They have been talking holographic since the Laser was developed. It is always "5 years away." *Smile
The trouble with 3D TV that you can rotate, move around, look underneath, is it is not easy to direct. Everything becomes "theater in the round." That's probably the real reason they keep saying it is not yet technically feasible.

I don't put them in my desktop builds anymore. I have one external USB HP LightScribe Drive that I use when I have to.

  15. But not everyone thinks it's ugly. I agree broadcast TV is dying out, but I still want a big screen and sound. I don't to watch things on a PC or tablet.

Speakers get a bad rap too. I still like gigantic speakers. Now people say it's an eyesore. In the 80s they were sexy. Something like these:
