Windows 10: Windows 10 will not activate after hardware change becasue "The edition of Windows on your...

I recently made a hardware change and I need to reactivate my windows. When going through the troubleshooting process and selecting " I changed hardware on this device recently" Windows will still not activate saying that: "The edition of Windows on your device doesn’t match the edition of Windows you linked to your digital license." Also when I click on "See other devices linked to your Microsoft account" It does not show my current device only my past device in which I originally had a Windows 10 professional license.

windows activation—hardware changed siginficantly

From time to time on my thoroughbred PC, I get a Windows activation message that says my hardware changed siginificantly and I have to re-activate Windows. My hardware hasn't changed any more than a network card (went from a wireless g card to onboard lan to a wired network card), and the install is legit. Why is it doing this, and how can I stop it?

not that easy, unfortunately. fresh install is NOT the way to go, until AFTER the swap. I have swapped boards on my oiverclocking test OS that I use for reviews many times now, and that license (a retail one), de-activated after two board swaps, and then with every board swap after that. All other hardware remained the same. I do fresh installs for benchmarks in reviews, and they have NEVER activated. media creation tool makes it so the dvd will automatically activate on the hardware it was created on, IF the windows it was created on was already activated.

Technically it should not activate if its a upgrade from an OEM license. But if you follow the phone automated number sequence hopefully it will work.

Windows 10 is tied to your hardware and you cannot upgrade a motherboard on an OEM license. (but it works with the phone activation) you can only replace the board with an identical board.
