Windows 10 Will not Boot on my SSD unless the old Harddrive is plugged it.

    So,

I fresh installed Win 10 last night on to a new SSD

    Everything was peachy.

This morning I turned on my computer to a window error unable to boot.

I checked Bios settings, Priority is set to try booting from the new Install on the SSD first.
    Other drives 2nd 3rd and 4th etc.

Now, interestingly The SSD will Boot Windows if the old Hard Drive containing my old install of Win 10

I have checked and the Copy of Win 10 is running on the SSD.

It's just really odd that on it's own it will not boot. "Insert boot media"
But with the old drive plugged in, it will.

    What is going on here?

also, accidentally snapped the SATA pins off my back up drive!!!!!!!! Gunna have to get the soldering iron out for that one

    :)

  2. New windows 10 installtion on New SSD - wont boot unless old SSD present

It seems you installed Windows while the both SSDs were connected. This would have caused your current problem. Maybe it is sufficient to do this:

    1. Launch the Disk Manager.
    2. Right-click drive C:, then mark it as "active".
    3. Shut down Windows
    4. Open the BIOS and tell it that the new SSD is the primary boot device.
    5. Disconnect the old SSD.
    6. Boot up normally.

If this does not work then you might have to do this:

    1. Disconnect the old SSD.
    2. Re-install Windows on the new SSD, using the Media Creation Tool.

Windows 10 won't boot with SSD plugged in.

So a while back I got a new motherboard the MSI A320M PRO VD/S V2. Off course this came along with some new ram and a new CPU. Right now I have 3 storage devices plugged in. My HardDrive, my boot SSD and a second SSD for storage. I have this configured
that my boot SSD is in SATA 1 and my HardDrive is in SATA 2. Now my other SSD is plugged in via an USB C to USB 3.1 connector on the back of my computer. Every time I try to boot with that SSD plugged in on the back, windows just won't boot. When I take it
out then boot my pc it works.

I turned off legacy mode for USB in my bios. I also turned legacy mode off in the boot manager. I made sure that windows boot manager is selected on the SATA 1 drive. It all detects the drives and everything but it just won't boot. It is so weird, I do not
    understand.

dual boot 2 separate harddrives in laptop with windows 10

I have a dell laptop with an SSD 128 GB harddrive with Windows 10 on that one and a 1 TB drive that is separate from the windows installation. I partitioned 100 GB on the separate disk for Kali Linux and installed it. When I boot it up in order for it to
not go directly to Linux unless I press the F12 key then I can choose the SSD drive and it boots into windows 10. If I take the laptop out of Legacy mode to UFEI mode then it boots to windows boot loader and asks me 3 different systems, Windows 8.1, one with
nothing listed and Windows 10. I'm sure that the 8.1 listing just needs a program to remove the old system boot record as I know that its hard to get rid of old systems even though the operating system is gone. Can someone come up with a solution for the booting
problem and also how to link the rest of my 1 TB drive to the SSD drive so my Windows 10 has more room for files and folders as the SSD drive is getting full. I know this is a lot of questions but if someone could help it would make life a lot easier.

    Thanks,

    Jamie
