Windows 10: Windows 10 will not update

I just built a new pc and am attempting to download Windows 10 onto the pc. I have an older version of Windows 10 from 2016, but it downloaded just fine, however, there are countless updates that I am trying to install and every time it tries to install version 1809, it says it fails and reverts back to 1607. I've been at this for 2 days now and have no idea what to do. Do I just need to buy a new copy of windows 10 or is there something I can do to get the updates to properly install?

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Well just noticed a pretty large one pop up coming in at 914MB, seems it makes some pretty serous updates.
