Windows 10: Windows 10 wish list - Add a Time Zone selection during installation?

Does anyone know or is aware of when will MS release a new Win10 build in which one can select a Time zone to set during installation?

I really wish a new release of Windows10 can include an option to select a Time Zone during setup.
Its just weird that this is not included.

I would get rid of the Cortana voice assistant during install, which is VERY annoying by the way, and replace that where users can enter their Time Zones.

date and time zone +15 hours not available as a setting. how do i set a dual clock for the second time zone when it's not an available selection

Hi Rick,

Right-click the clock in the taskbar

Click Adjust Date/Time

Click Add Clocks For Different Time Zones at the top right of the resulting settings window

Again, click Add Clocks For Different Time Zones at the top right of the resulting window

Select Show This Clock, pick a time zone, and then add a descriptive label for the custom clock

Click OK

It is recommended to use MS account, so your settings would synchronize upon the first logon.

MS wanted to simply the setup as much as possible and also to force users to use the online account.

People, who like to tinker, can easily change the setup the way they want to, so it is not really an issue.

If they really wanted to simplify it they wouldn't ask you about Cortana or to set all the (frankly incomprehensible) privacy options. They would just default them one way or the other.

Most other OS (I mean MacOS and every Linux I can remember) ask you your language, keyboard, timezone and user. Windows (for whatever reason) drops the timezone. Perhaps because Windows uses localtime by default and everything else uses UTC. I don't know.

Of course you could be right but I don't think having to set timezone manually after install would push someone who didn't want an MS account to use one.

 

It did not ask before, EU forced it to ask and EU still thinks, it is not good enough.
You just got to love EU, especially the cookie notices, which are hard to get rid off.

The setting the device name / computer name automatically to some random gibberish is something else that annoys me. I always end up having to go and change it after the fact.

They likely saw complaints that the setup was "too complicated and takes too long". So now its quicker. You just spend the time you saved digging around in settings and control panel after the fact getting things set the way you want.

An option to select "detailed setup" during setup would be nice, for power users etc. Select that and get the extra options normally set in the background.

 

I agree but that at least makes some sort of sense.

Imagine you are setting up your PC and you make your user name "Alpha". In older versions of Windows the host name would default to "Alpha-PC". You set up a second PC with the same username and it gets the same hostname (unless you edit it) and then your network doesn't work as you have duplicate names. Replace "Alpha-PC" with random gibberish, that error drops off your telemetry reports and MS management give you a gold star for reducing installation errors. Probably.

Can't argue with that.
