  1. Windows 10/WMP 12 - Losing tag information when converting files to lower bit rate

I've recently purchased a new Dell laptop with Windows 10. I also have a Huawei P20 Pro that I have used with VLC Player so I can listen to all my WMA music on the move. This setup worked fine on Windows Media Player on a Windows 7 desktop but now fails to work on my shiny new Dell laptop.

If I go with the standard "automatic" settings for syncing then there are no issues. The problem being that all my WMA files are in lossless format and it doesn't take long to start filling up my storage.

I have always previously selected 128k as my preferred bit rate and thought I would do the same on the laptop. Now when it copies the files they show up as Unknown Artist and have the tag information removed.

I can see what's happening but I can't understand why. How can I convince WMP to go back to the way it worked on my Windows 7 computer? It's frustrating! I have run the troubleshooters with no effect.

    Somebody help? Please?

    :)

  2. How to force WMP to always apply/display changes to mp3 tag info?

Does anyone know why Windows Media Player 12 is so stubborn when it comes to updating MP3 tag information, particularly the ratings field?

I have my WMP Library options set as shown in the attached file, yet have mp3 files with ratings set months ago from within WMP that have not been saved to the files themselves.

I have unchecked the "Maintain my star ratings as global ratings in files" and "Write media information changes to files" options, rechecked them, and clicked apply, yet still have tracks for which the ratings have not been saved to the files themselves.

I have also right-clicked the WMP title bar, clicked "Tools" -> "Apply media information changes", and yet still have tracks in my library with ratings that are saved in WMP but not to the files themselves.

Another possibly related behavior I have noticed is if I update a group of mp3 files' tags to add their track numbers from within another app such as mp3tag, WMP will not automatically detect this update until I actually try to play the tracks. Even closing and reopening WMP will not display the newly-added track numbers for those files.

How do I force WMP to immediately apply and display changes made to a mp3 file's tag information/metadata?

I am running Windows 10 Pro (Version 1909 (OS Build 18363.720)).

  3. WMP 12 in Windows 10

I have recently upgraded to Windows 10, but my music library is empty in WMP 12. I have deleted the library database, changed music locations and added into "organize" and still no listing in the library. Can anyone suggest how I can get my library back
and hence play music in WMP 12?

How to convert music files back to .wav or .wmp?

    Hello,

For your audio files to be recognized, what we suggest is that you download an audio file converter. This is for the files that were converted to groove files be converted to either .wav or .wmp.

    Hope this information was helpful.
