Windows 10: Windows 10 wont boot. HELP!!

My Friend broke his windows install.

I took my Samsung T5 SSD with an install of windows 10 pro (1909) to school last week for use with my MacBook Pro, after I had finished using it, just as class was about to finish my friend decided to plug it into his surface book 2 and boot into my copy of windows. It did just that and booted up fine, but the problem came after he unplugged the T5 and tried booting into his copy of windows stored on his internal SSD. When he went back into the Surface UEFI to change the boot device settings, he found that the boot device that the surface was previously booting from ('Windows Bootloader" it was named) was missing, and upon boot, the laptop went straight back into the UEFI. The second time, however, the Windows Bootloader appeared and we set it to default boot device and disabled boot from USB (Set UEFI back to default pretty much). It didn't boot.

After this, my friend remembered that he had a Linux bootloader installed and then removed it to ensure that it wasn't the root of the problem

After this, we tried a series of boot commands that did not work and am now left with a non-working copy of windows 10.

Commands Tried;

bootrec /fixboot

bootrec /rebuildBCD

bootrec /fixmbr

bootrec /scanos

None of these worked

Is there any way to fix this issue and get windows to boot up again. My gut tells me its something to do with the surface UEFI as this error would not occur on other laptops or PCs in the first place.

We would rather not remove the SSD from the surface as it is still under warranty and removing will void it.

If there is not a way to fix this installation, is there any means of copying all the files (including settings and application setting and preferences to a new and fresh install of windows)

Windows 10 USB boot

Hi there, am not a windows 10 expert. I have a pc in the bedroom on windows 10, I messed up the bootloader trying to fix the xp on that system.

System wont boot, trying to repair via win 10 usb installer.

Downloaded the media creation tool to install windows 10 installer on usb stick. Not compatible with a host of usb sticks I have. Tried the usb sticks that others use, but I think they use rufus; as the media creation tool by win 10 does not detect the usb stick.

So quick question, the win10 machine i am trying to repair the bootloader is a win7 upgraded to win10.
If i were to use the usb win10 installer to "repair installation" does the version of the iso downloaded via the media creation tool matter?

There is three options:
Windows 10
Windows 10 Home
Windows 10 N

Also is there a step by step instead of using rufus as I want to try an alternative method of creating a usb win 10 installer. Preferably with more compatibility.

System is a asus sabertooth 990 (r2?) with AMD phenom X 6.

Also is there any other software I can load onto the usb that can repair the bootloader easily?
That would be the ideal alternative. Thanks

 

PC wont boot up (No POST, No Video)

I recently installed a new Asus M5A99X Evo r2.0. The motherboard green LED lights up and the case and cpu fans spin. But there is no video when its hooked up to my monitor.

Steps that i have tried:
Perform these steps before posting about POST/boot/no video problems!

Made sure all connections are properly connected.

Flashing the CMOS

Tested the PSU

Followed all steps in the user manual

If there are any links that you guys can point me to or suggestions that could help it would be highly appreciated. Thank you

 

Windows 10 upgrade problem, no input accepted

I really hate having to come here and ask for help, but I really am stumped. It hurts my geek pride. I have a PC with fairly modern hardware in it. It has a p8p67 pro in it. I have tried upgrading windows 10 on it twice now. Both times I have had the same result.

After windows finishes upgrading it goes to the log in/set up screen. I can't do anything. No keyboard or mouse input is accepted.

I will list some, or hopefully all, of the troubleshooting steps I have tried:

• Move keyboard and mouse to different USB ports.
• Try different keyboard or mouse.
• Restart computer, repeatedly.
• Google for related issues.
• Update Bios, because why not.
• Create boot media and revert to windows 7.

The windows 10 system restore boot media works fine with keyboard and mouse. All USB ports work in windows 7. I don't know what is wrong. I suspect that windows 10 is lacking a driver of some sort, but since the computer accepts no input I have no way of checking for which driver let alone installing it.

Please help me figure this out. If I have to revert back to windows 7 again, I am not going to get it upgraded to windows 10. Thank you in advanced.
