Windows 10: Windows 10 wont sleep automatically

Yes I have searched so don't yell at me yet.

The PC wont sleep. It's not that it goes to sleep and wakes up, it just wont sleep.

Here's what I have done so far.

Went to advanced power options and turned off that when sharing media keep PC awake thing.

Played with the when to sleep settings from 4 hours to 25 minutes.

Run in an elevated command prompt the /lastwake thing. Nothing.

My network adapters are not set to allow them to wake the PC, but again the PC isn't even going to sleep so nothing has the chance to wake things up.

Looked through the system log for powertroubleshooting entries, nope, nothing.

Unplugged my mouse because hey why not maybe the mouse is keeping it awake, nope.

So anyone have ideas? Where do I go from here?

Computer does not sleep anymore (\FileSystem\srvnet)

I found no less than 20 forums in last few days trying to solve this issue.

Success rate varies, but I would say it is about 10% (finding solution that works).S

It is ridiculous that such a trivial operation (fricking just shut it off?!!!!!!!!!!) gives Microsoft so much trouble.

(By the way - tried requestsoverride, unplugging everything and updating to the latest win10 10586).

So no - did not find solution yet. still won't sleep.

Although I have Lenovo - people in HP forum suggested uninstalling Realtek HD sound (? ok). That is the only opion I have left.

By the way running from adm cmd : powercfg -requestsoverride driver \filesystem\srvnet and ......driver srvnet

did not do anything.

Power energy diagnostics ran over and over (log) still shows:

System Availability Requests:System Required Request

The device or driver has made a request to prevent the system from automatically entering sleep.

Driver Name
\FileSystem\srvnet

 

As an update, the computer sleeps just fine if you do it manually. I set it to sleep last night and it remained that way until I woke up this morning and pushed the power button.

 

Is your BIOS up to date?

 

What would that have to do with Windows 10 sleeping? Serious question, not snarky.

My PC used to sleep but then something changed. I have tried uninstalling everything I put on over the past few weeks but its not doing a thing. But like I said, it sleeps just fine when I do it manually, nothing is waking it up.

 

After having pc sleep issues myself I came to understand from trawling forums that in some instances it was a BIOS issue
I appreciate it was working but such an issue can be a consequence of something else changing, e.g. the OS etc.
Without knowing that exact cause a way forward is to update what you know to be out of out of date, the BIOS is a good place to start

 

I have updated my bios to whatever is current as of right now.

PC slept fine again last night, no wake issues at all. Will find out later today if it goes to sleep automatically but I am not hopeful.

 

Did you check to see if it goes into hibernation?

 

Try powercfg -requests from an elevated Command Prompt. Hopefully it will show what is preventing sleep.

I found my Win 10 computer would not sleep for the exact same reasons my Win 8.1 won't, certain processes are preventing it. Once I set exclusions it sleeps fine. I do have another issue related to sleep but it is off topic.

 

Here is what that is showing right now:

I bet you have a Homegroup set up. If you choose you can easily set an exclusion for what is preventing sleep. But be aware the computer will sleep even if your other computers are communicating with it so if that is important don't set the exclusion.

Again at the elevated Command Prompt enter:

powercfg -requestsoverride DRIVER "srvnet" SYSTEM (make sure to use the quotes around srvnet)

To be double sure you could also enter:

powercfg -requestsoverride DRIVER "\FileSystem\srvnet" SYSTEM (again make sure to use the quotes) but I think the first command is really all you need.

 

I have run the command... now lets wait to see what happens.

 

It worked. So we'll never know what actually caused it but forcing it to just go to sleep no matter what accomplished what we set out to do.

 

Almost two months later, you sure weren't in a hurry to follow up *Wink . I assume it worked for you straight off and you are just getting around to letting us know.

Based on your power requests we know exactly what was causing it, servnet. You told the computer to ignore that request and the computer is able to sleep. Keep the solution in mind as you may have to do it for other processes/drivers, etc.
