Windows 10: Windows 10 won't sleep

So, I've been having this issue for at least a year. I posted to this forum a long time ago and spent ages going through steps. People were really helpful but sadly nothing we did ever resolved the issue. Instead, I resigned myself to the idea that I would always have to manually put the computer to sleep.

This morning my desire to fix this was reignited...here we go.

Since I first posted this issue I have done a fresh install of Windows 10. I like to do this every so often just to keep my computer fresh. The sleep issue was still present.

This morning I have run various command prompts with these results.

powercfg /energy = the report showed the driver "High Definition Audio Device" to be stopping the computer from sleeping

I added a powercfg -requestsoverride both for that driver and it's longer name of "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0892&SUBSYS_104384FB&REV_1003\4&19558cef&0&0001" which was recommended on one thread.

That did nothing so I reinstalled the Realtek driver, finding the latest one on the Realtek site. Powercfg /energy now says "Realtek High Definition Audio" is preventing the computer from sleeping. I blocked that driver using requstsoverride. Nothing. Computer still won't sleep on it's own.

Next, I unplugged every cable (except power and monitor of course) from my computer and one by one ran "powercfg -requests" to see if the driver issue would go away. Every time it returned the following:

"Realtek High Definition Audio (HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0892&SUBSYS_104384FB&REV_1003\4&19558cef&0&0001)An audio stream is currently in use."

From my testing today it seems clear that:

1) no plugged in device is stopping sleep
2) I'm still completely stumped as to how to resolve this *Smile

One other thing - I now seem unable to remove the previously blocked drivers from "requestsoverride". I type "powercfg -requestsoverride driver High Definition Audio Device" for exmaple but when running "powercfg -requestsoverride" it's still there. I imagine it's not an issue but I'd love to remove the old ones from before I updated the driver.

While I don't have a great answer could I ask... have you contacted your vendor to see how they suggest solving? I searched Audio Streams to see if there was a method to identify which one was involved. In reading articles it talks about OEM's defining this and that. My thinking is Chillblast has defined something that is encoded right into the board or the firmware to "Enhance" your experience. You've likely already contacted Chillblast in which case you can place this post in the bit bucket.
