  1. Windows 10 won't start after attempting suggested troubleshooting option

Hello r/Windows10. It appears that my Windows 10 is failing to start correctly after I attempted a troubleshooting suggestion recommended to me by Windows itself.

Initially I was having trouble connecting to my Wifi ('Connected, no internet') from my desktop PC. This ended up being an issue with my router that needed resetting, but I did not realize this before attempted to troubleshoot my PC. I went to my network settings and pressed troubleshoot. After a self-diagnostic Windows reported that it could not find any problems, but that resetting my network adaptor (or something like that) could help, and it would require a computer reset. I hit ok and reset my computer.

Now, Windows won't start correctly. It will get to the screen with the Windows logo and the loading circle, but gets stuck on a black screen after that. After sitting on that black screen for a while, the computer restarts and I'm taken to a screen that says Preparing Automatic Repair. From the advanced options from that troubleshooting page I've tried the Startup Repair option, but it's unable to resolve the problem.

The Uninstall Updates option doesn't seem like it would work (it was a troubleshooting attempt that did this, not an update). The Reset This PC and System Restore options both require a password to proceed which I have no idea on (my Microsoft account password doesn't seem to be it).

I'm not sure what to do at this point so I'm asking here for help. Many thanks!

Edit: I also tried the Startup Settings option, which restarts you PC and takes you to a screen with multiple startup options, including starting in safe mode. However, neither my mouse or keyboard work on this screen so I cannot actually select an option.

I tried swapping the keyboard through each USB port and none worked. I think the Startup Setting screen is kicking in before the part of the startup process when the keyboard comes on.

  3. Windows 10 infinite restart black screen

The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.

Windows 10 won't start after attempting suggested troubleshooting option

Laptop went black and won;t reboot

    Hi Andree,

Hardware and software conflict is one of the possible reasons why you're experiencing black screen. Sometimes, it is also because of hardware failure. To get this issue fixed, we suggest that you
boot into Safe Mode by following these steps:

    • Turn off your computer 3 times while booting. Windows should automatically boot to the Recovery Environment after 3 unsuccessful attempts in a row.
    • Once you are within the Recovery Environment, select Troubleshoot, and then
Advanced options, then Startup Settings, and
      Restart
. When it restarts, you should see a number of options. Press 5 or F5 for
      Safe Mode with Networking.
Once your computer is in Safe Mode, please follow the workaround provided on this
link. Simply select the similar case that you're experiencing to show the troubleshooting steps.

Let us know how it works.
