Windows 10: windows 11 22h2 update bricks surface laptop

So, I was installing 22h2 on a Surface go laptop. 64 gb of memory, when i was installing it, it had 6.6 gb free. It had to use a removable drive to “expand” the c: drive as it said, and the first part installing was fine, but the problem was that my mini sd card plugged into a usb, didn’t start normally when you start the computer, so it said “insert removable drive then press ok”. Everything else on the screen was black, so i could do nothing. I reinserted the mini sd, it was fine. It took a long time for the laptop to install the updates. Windows 11 22H2 Update near-bricked a Surface

I was looking to download the image to make a recovery drive but it's extremely annoying to be forced to recover back to Windows 10 because the devices is a Surface Pro 7. It's already on Windows 11 and is failing to install 22H2. So ideally I'd want to create a recovery drive that's already Windows 11 + 22H2. Doesn't seem to be allowed :-(

It's not mine, it's a relative's Microsoft Surface (not clear which model it is, but it's fairly small). They bought it, loved it, did nothing in the way of customizing and then one day recently Microsoft's Windows update completely f***ed it. Their own updates of their own operating system on their own hardware and it can't manage to do that successfully. You'd think they'd test that first.

Current state is that despite having only a 12" screen, it's put itself into 2736x1824 resolution and the text is unreadable. I'm just about able to figure out what's being displayed if I keep taking photos of the screen with my phone and zoom into them, but it's a really slow process. Productivity with this laptop has gone from 100% to 0%. I said she should ask for a full refund but would see if there's anything I can do first. I managed to track down an error code of 0x80070002 from the 22H2 update and found in the setupdiag xml file that it was fatal error driver migrations. That doesn't help knowing that though. I tried the update troubleshooter, didn't do anything. SFC didn't do anything. There are no system restore points. It didn't come with a USB recovery drive. It's basically bricked.

I don't know why whatever these forums or troubleshooting tips suggest can't be done automatically by the windows update process itself. If terminal commands or tools can find out what the problem was, then update should be able to find that too and fix its own problems. It's called fault tolerance. I was programming fault-tolerant software in the '90s.

Windows 11 22H2 on Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio

I recently bought the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio (i7, 32GB RAM, 1000 GB SSD). Currently i have Windows 11 21H2 installed but i would like to update to 22H2. But the possibilty to update is just not shown in the settings. I've done every update available. Can someone help?
