Windows 10: Windows 11 22h2 : Windows forgets Hello settings - pin and fingerprint

Dears ,every time I try to setup pin and fingerprint , windows remove after an hour or so .is there a solution for that ?Thanks

Hi,

I have a desktop with external fingerprint sensor. The machine is 4 years old and worked with fingerprint unlock and windows 10 since I got it. After updating to Windows 11 about two months ago it worked as well.

Since 3 days ago, it seems to completely forget the entire hello enrollment, sometimes within hours, sometimes overnight.

When it fails, waking the screen only shows the password option, not the pin or the fingerprint. If I go to hello settings, it's back to the same state as a clean install with Hello not activated. Some failure results in the complete loss of all Hello settings.

I've tried re-enrolling a few times - always successful, resulting in the expected behaviors until the next seemingly random fail. This makes me believe it's not hardware related - no issues in device manager and no hardware driver updates in the recent history.

I've followed the suggested remedy here (Windows Hello keeps losing PIN, fingerprint and Facial recognition - Microsoft Community) with the same result.

Can you help me troubleshoot this?

I appreciate your suggestions. I do know they are reasonable attempts. The system restore often fixes update issues and I do believe it's somehow a result of recent windows update activities.

I think I need an expert on Windows Hello. I can't understand how a fingerprint/PIN can be removed in the background without a password prompt.

I am on a domain network. Is it possible there is a group policy setting that gets applied and interferes with this machine?

I have a win11 notebook right next to the desktop that has the same updates and shows no issues with the fingerprint login so my organization is allowing it...

What part of the operating system has to malfunction for Hello to be completely forgotten?

Even disabling a pin requires a password under normal circumstances.

Somehow, while running, the system removes pin and fingerprint information without any prompt or other indication of failure. The next time I want to wake the screen up (the machine is set to never sleep or hibernate) the only login option is the password again.
