Windows 11 - 'Best Performance' power mode way slower than 'Balanced' on battery + general...

Windows 11 is behaving very oddly for me on battery when power mode is 'Best performance'Problem descriptionI mostly use my laptop plugged and it works fine, but the other day needed to do some work on the field and it was really slow, to the point of being almost unusable. Applications opened really slowly and everything was jerky, mouse pointer not smooth etc. Just slooow.I checked task manager and noticed CPU frequency not going beyond 2Ghz, mostly below that.My laptop is quite high end: i7-11800H with 32Gb of RAM and SSD HP ZBook Power G8 so this was very frustrating.I had no such issues

Power Profiles... balanced vs high performance

    Hello all...

I have (tried) to configure my laptop so I never have to change my power profile, and always leave it at "balanced."

I've entered the window containing all of the power options, and set it so that my computer matches the settings of "high performance" whenever plugged in, and matches the settings of "power saver" whenever I'm on batteries. So, in theory, my laptop should
act EXACTLY as it does on "high performance" when I'm plugged in.

    But it doesn't.

When I render HD video, after about five minutes, the CPU throttles down to about 50% in "balanced" mode, but only about 75% in "high performance" mode. So I think there's still something different about the two modes. Does anyone know if there's a deeper
menu somewhere where I can make changes so my power profile is exactly like "high performance" when it's plugged in, even though I'm in "balanced?"

    Thanks!

  3. Performance on Battery

    Hi.

Usually battery may simply be incapable of putting out enough Watts to run the device at full power when not plugged in. If so, some slowdown on battery is inevitable.

The device vendor will have balanced the max GPU and CPU clocks allowed on battery for what they feel will provide the best performance while keeping power consumption within what the battery can provide.

The device whose GPUs push system power over 180 Watts need to get additional power from elsewhere, so they get it from the battery. They will actually slowly drain the battery when you actively using device at max performance while plugged in.

To recharge the battery, the device has to be plugged into AC power. And if the battery is completely drained, the system will automatically throttle down the CPU and GPU to keep power consumption under what the AC adapter alone can provide.

Generally better to use balanced mode instead of full performance. While switching to the balanced or full performance profile can yield better performance than the low power profile, whatever limitations the manufacture made to keep the device power draw within
the battery's and AC adapter's specs are built into the BIOS and will override any Windows settings.

Let me know if you have any questions

Windows 11 - 'Best Performance' power mode way slower than 'Balanced' on battery + general...

Power Plan stuck in Balanced Mode.

I have this bug for some time now but since i couldn't find a fix for it i decided to post it here to see if anybody could help me.

Basically, my power plan is stuck on Balanced mode and whenever i try to choose the Maximum Performance mode it just resets to Balanced Mode again.

I have tried to create my own power plan but with no avail, it still reverts to balanced mode. Does anyone know the fix for this?

Thank you guys in advance and sorry for any spelling/grammar mistakes, English is not my native language.
