    This happened after a windows update which after restarting causes the computer to hang up on a black screen before the login screen. The curser reacts to movement and alternates from spinning wheel to cursor with spinning wheel. ctrl alt del has no affect but mashing shift does cause sticky keys promt to appear. Plugging in the boot ssd to another computer shows no obvious problems. Is there a way to repair windows on said drive without reformating preferably keeping applications and files while not being able to boot into it.

    Hi Dan,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

    • Have you installed all pending updates?
    • Are you able to log into Desktop?
    • Is the issue specific to Ctrl + Alt + Del screen?

    Black screen error can occur if the computer is not up to date with all Drivers and Windows updates. Install all pending updates and check if that helps.

    CTRL ALT DEL Black Screen

    Hi there, whenever my PC crashes (mainly during games) and I try to CTRL ALT DEL, I get to a black screen with just a cursor and am forced to shut down my PC. Any way I can fix this?

    When my PC crashes and I try to Ctrl + Alt + Del I get a black screen. Unplugging the HDMI and putting it back in brings back my screen but this isn't great as my desktop icons rearrange. Is the a proper fix for the black screen issue? Thanks.

    BLACK SCREEN WINDOWS 11 - CTRL + ALT + DEL NOT WORKING - TASK MANAGER NOT COMING UP

    I decided to reset my computer and start new and now I'm having trouble logging into my desktop PC windows 11. It comes up with a black screen with cursor. I have tried multiple methods. I've tried rebooting and restarting the PC multiple times. CTRL + ALT + DEL is not working to bring up task manager as well.

    any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. thank you.
