Windows 10: Windows 11 can't connect to home network with shared printer

I have an old Brother laser printer. It’s not wifi enabled. It is plugged into my desktop computer which runs Windows 10 Home and is Shared. I have a new laptop running Windows 11. I've tried adding this printer manually using the shared printer by name \\desktop-name\shared-printer-name. I get a Connect to Printer error. "Windows cannot connect to the printer. The specified network name is no longer available."In windows explorer, I can go to Network, then click on desktop-name. I see the shared-printer-name, but when I click on it, I get "operation could not be completed error 0x00000040.

Windows 11 Add Printer not working for shared network printer

Hi,

I have just installed windows 11 after some intrepidation i am delighted with windows 11. So far all is working perfectly. Except one issue. we have a shared network printer connected to another PC. when i go to "Add a device" selecting add manually add a network discoverable printer. The printer shows up in the list. Select the printer then next a get "Windows dosen't have a network profile for this device" i have the latest updates and the network profile i have tried private and public, same result.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Sorry , I think, I read wrong.*Slap :slap: Are you tring to connect wirelessly to the printer on the desktop and the printer is connected to the desktop thru usb or something?
