  1. Windows 11: Can't use context menu "Compress to ZIP file" anymore

I am having a small issue with Windows 11 where when I right click a file and click on "Compress to ZIP file" it asks me how I want to open my file. It does not compress the file like it used to. I use this feature quite a lot and have never had a problem with it until today.Step 1:Step 2:System SpecsVersion: 21H2OS build: 22000.739I have already tried an automatic PC repair and restored my PC to the last restore point. The issue still persists.Let me know if you need any more information. Thank you.

    ZIPping files

Windows can zip a file (or multiple files) without needing extra software.

    • Select the files you want.
    • Right-click any one of the selected files.
    • Select Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder from the context menu.
    • If you have Windows 8, 8.1 or 10, you can also click Zip on the
      Share tab of the ribbon.

  3. I don't have the option to make a zip file anymore, why?

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern, and we in Community will try to help you in the best possible way we can.

We can easily restore this option by doing the following steps. Sometimes you may need to download the Compressed folder.zip file manually.

    • Open the Run Command box by pressing Windows+R keys. Then type
%systemdrive%\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo in the command box and click OK.

    • Now copy the Compressed (zipped) folder from this folder.

    • If you cannot find the file in this folder then you may need to manually download the Compressed folder.zip file.

    • After obtaining the Compressed(zipped)folder , open the Run command box by pressing Windows+R keys and type theshell:sendto command in the command box and click OK.

    • Paste the previously copied or downloaded Compressed (zipped) folder in this folder.

    • You can right click on any file and select the Send to menu and you will find the Compressed (zipped) folder option. Thus you can easily create Compressed (zipped) folders.

Hope the information helps, if you have any further queries, feel free to post. We are here to assist you.

    Regards,
