    Windows 11 Changing Desktop Background Theme Makes Dark Mode Disappear


    Hello,I am currently using Windows 11 Enterprise, Version 23H2. I changed my mode to Dark Mode. When I select another Windows Desktop Theme one from the Microsoft Store, it changes the Dark Mode to Custom for Choose your Mode and the mode reverts back to light mode. How do I prevent this from happening? I want Dark Mode to remain no matter what Desktop Background Theme I choose. If I select Dark in Choose your Mode when I change the desktop background, I am able to manually get the Dark Mode back. However, if I choose another desktop background and choose the previous desktop background aga

    Hi,

    Thank you for providing the information.

    • Did you try the steps suggested by Suvarna Govinda above, what was the result?
    As I understand the issue, Themes in Windows doesn't have the options to change on its own. Only the Wallpapers in the themes can change as selected ( Picture, Solid color and Slide Show ).

    I would suggest you to make us understand that if the Wallpapers are changing in Theme which you have selected.

    Below are the steps you can check if it helps.

    • Press Windows + I keys and select Personalization.
    • Select Theme and select the Default theme.
    • Select the Desktop Background below and select the Picture
      and save it and check.

    What's the fascination with dark mode?

    In Visual Studio 2019 the theme choices are:
    • Blue
    • Light
    • Dark
    • Blue (Extra Contrast)
    I tried the Dark theme in Visual Studio. Your right about focusing on the text. That's not the problem. When in Dark mode the text is blurry to me so if I don't focus on it I will probably get a headache. I much prefer the Blue theme where reading the text is less stressful. In Office 2019 the theme choices are:
    • Colorful (default)
    • Dark Gray
    • Black
    • White
    • Use system setting
    I find the default theme of Colorful best for me.
