Problems using a Japanese or Traditional Chinese IME on a non-Japanese or non-Traditional Chinese version of Windows 10 immediately after installing the April 2018 Update.

If you are running a non-Japanese or non-Traditional Chinese version of Windows 10 and are experiencing any of these problems, try these steps to resolve them:

    Symptom 1:
You may not able to type Japanese or Traditional Chinese characters when first signing into your account.

If you are connected to the Internet, you can wait for the IME dictionaries to download.
If you’d prefer not to wait, or if are not connected to the Internet,
when selecting your operating system language, please choose a Japanese or Traditional Chinese operating system.
These languages include pre-loaded IME dictionaries.
In some cases, your PC manufacturer or enterprise may offer a customized Windows 10 you may choose that already includes an IME dictionary to avoid this problem.

    Symptom 2:
You may not be able to type Japanese or Traditional Chinese characters if your do not have an Internet connection or before the dictionary is downloaded.

If you think you might have problems downloading the IME dictionary, first check if the download was successful.
To do this, open Settings, and select Apps.
Then select Manage Optional Features. If your Japanese or Traditional Chinese IME dictionaries have been successfully installed, you should see “Japanese typing” or “Chinese (Taiwan) typing
within the list of Optional Features.

If you don’t see a successful download, try resolving this issue by manually downloading the IME dictionary.
(These steps require an Internet connection.)

    1. At the Start menu, click Cortana’s search box and type “Command Prompt”.
    2. Right-click Command Prompt in the search results and select
      Run as Administrator.
    3. In the Command Prompt window, type one of the following command and press Enter to install the basic typing Features on Demand package:
    • For Japanese basic typing:
    DISM.exe /Online /Add-Capability /CapabilityName:Language.Basic~~~ja-JP~0.0.1.0

    • For Traditional Chinese basic typing:
    DISM.exe /Online /Add-Capability /CapabilityName:Language.Basic~~~zh-TW~0.0.1.0

    Symptom 3:
Windows server update services (WSUS) may not detect your Japanese or Traditional Chinese IME in some corporate environments.

If you’re using Windows 10 Enterprise in a corporate environment and can't type Japanese or Traditional Chinese characters, please ask your local IT administrator for help.

  3. The Japanese IME input method will not change - Windows 10

The same situation occures on my System. I've been using Japanese input in different form for two decades and Windows 10 Japanese IME on two different machines for over a year now. I know what I am doing. The IME is definitely broken. Hiragana input has
become completely impossible. Switching from Romaji input to Kana input is nowhere possible inside Windows - not in Word, Outlook, Edge, Opera, Firefox, Windows Store apps or the Cortana search bar.

Really, please don't put us off with a link to some description how to use IME for beginners. Im am using Japanese and Chinese input every day for work (I am a foreign correspondent based in Beijing), and yes, I also use keyboard shortcuts. This is no problem
with shortcuts or not knowing how to use IME. It is a bug. Please help us make it work again. I need to input Asian characters. As I've just refreshed my PC I have no motivation to reinstall the OS again so soon.

Windows 11 Chinese/Japanese IME Severe Input Lag Issue - Intermittent 5-10 Second Character...

Windows 10 v1803 cannot copy paste Chinese characters

    I don't know why, It's strange!!!

    1. Every time I restarted my PC. Open a Notepad, input some Chinese characters with some English characters. Then, copy and paste them in Notepad, find that only English characters are copied while Chinese characters are lost. Then open the Microsoft Word
2016, the situation is the same, copy paste will lost non-English characters.

    2. I tried following step, then the Windows 10 can copy and paste Chinese characters.

    • Press the 'Windows + R' keys together
    • In the 'Open' window input 'WinWord /a', and press Enter.
Then the Microsoft Word was opened. I input some Chinese characters with some English characters, and then copy and paste them, found that Chinese characters can be copied!!! Then I closed Word, opened the Notepad again, inputted some
Chinese characters with some English characters, found that Chinese characters also could be copied in Notepad!!!

    I don't know why, It's so strange!!!
