Windows 10 clean install mess up partitions?

No. I have such setup since Windows XP and it works great. 50GB chuck of drive is reserved for system partition and data partition is the remaining disk size. When installing new OS, I just delete the first partition, recreate new one and install OS. System is installed clean each time and all the existing data remains where it was, on the secondary data partition. This way you can change systems in matter of hours without any fiddling with your stored data.

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

Windows 11 clean install, which partitions to delete

to delete drive partitions for clean installation?

Hi, I'm Anvar, I'd be glad to help you today on this

Click on the Custom: Install Windows only (Advanced) option clean install windows on the drive , which will get rid of bitlocker encryption as below steps remove all data on the disk

Select the partition with the current installation (usually "Drive 0"), and click the Delete button.

Quick tip: If "Drive 0" has multiple partitions, you have to select and delete each of the partitions to allow the setup to use the entire drive for the new clean installation. Windows 10 will create the required partitions automatically during the process. It's not necessary to delete the partitions on secondary drives.

    Click the Yes button.

Select the empty drive (Drive 0 Unallocated Space).

    Click the Next button.

Once you complete the steps, the setup will proceed with the fresh installation of Windows 10 on the device.

    Hope this helps.
