In the "old" days, doing a dir command in cmd prompt provided a perfectlyformatted output. Now, doing the dir command results in a totally screwedup output it starts off normal:F:\>dir Volume in drive F is Backup Plus Volume Serial Number is 5D8D-4F95 Directory of F:\11/21/2019 04:14 PM What was on drive when delivered05/25/2018 10:04 AM 20,187,549,619 CLOUD_BACKUP_2017_06_02.zip05/25/2018 12:55 PM 20,209,473,773 CLOUD_BACKUP_2017_12_08.zip05/25/2018 12:15 PM 22,816,003,802 CLOUD_BACKUP_2017_09_30.zip07/20/2018 12:42 PM 19,075,591,423 CLOUD_BACKUP_2018_03_09

"dir" output file list encoding is wrong

A big thank you. That is also great help. I am not versed using PS. @Try3, The image files and folders were named by French speaking people, so accents are "de rigueur". *Smile But the naming was done on a French language version in Windows 10 1909 in Canada. Which I believe is UTF-16.

Here are the screenshots of the file explorer and the output using UTF-8 or ANSI. I also tried DOS,

I used "cmd /u" to discover that the encoding is Unicode. Thanks to all, I got what I needed.

    dir Difficulties

I am getting the hang of this command set.

Maybe somebody know a work around that will list the three time stamps at one time.
    Theoretically dir /TC /TA /TW.
dir will only show one of the three at one time.

To me it seems that the only way to get all three on a line is to run loop with output to file, then boiling down the three outputs to one line. Clumsy but maybe the only way to get the job done?

    Thanks for any suggestions.
