This is not so much a question as a helpful tip for other users. I have spent many hours searching for a solution, even thinking that maybe my laptop was defective, because the screen just dims while I'm working and even HP support did not know to check this on their own laptops. I finally figured out the answer and need to post it. This would have saved me weeks of off-and-on research and hours of reading the same old steps across dozens of websites and wasted time with HP Support. Laptop Screen Slightly Dimmed

Hi astrocamstar,

Since the screen was dim in BIOS even you have tried many display configuration and settings, most probably the issue is from the screen and it is hardware-related issue. I would suggest to bring the laptop to a reliable maintenance shop to take a look at it.

Hp laptop screen won’t display except occasionally

I would like to note that step 20 comes up with no files. Perhaps this could be the source of the issues?
