  1. Windows 11 does not offer Explorer as an option for the default application for FTP ?

I have been using FTP to transfer files to my tablet for some time now. All of I sudden there was a hiccup in the connection. After spinning for about a minute I received an error message stating that it was read only because the proxy server is not configured. This had been working! Doing some research on the Internet I found the following instructions:Search on your machine for Default Applications.Choose at the bottom Default Apps by ProtocolScroll down until you see ftp on the left column and change the app to Windows Explorer.Windows 11 does not give me that option. 2. opening ftp files in the default application instead of a browser

In Windows 7 Explorer we could access an ftp server with a saved userid and password. Then, we could open an ftp server file in the default application (e.g. pdf file would open in Adobe Reader) without providing the server password again (it was already
    provided when accessing the server).

In Windows 10 Explorer the ftp server file is automatically opened in the default browser and is asking for the server password again.

Since we only want to view the contents of the file this is an unnecessary step and quite frustrating having to enter the password multiple times to view each file.

Is there a configuration setting in Windows 10 that replicates the Windows 7 Explorer capability of opening ftp files in their default application?

Update: I found the option to 'set program associations by app' (Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Default Programs\Set Program Associations) but the FTP protocol checkboxes for my browser are locked and cannot be unchecked.

  3. No FTP access using File Explorer with Windows 10 and IE 11

What do I have to do to access the files of an ftp site using File Explorer in Windows 10 and IE 11. Advanced options for internet already checked for Enabling FTP access by File Explorer, but after selecting ALT/View/Open ftp site in File Explorer, there
is no change from the original screen which lists the files and directories but prevents manipulation of the files.

FTP security issues using Internet Explorer and File Explorer Connections

    Hi Tony,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

We are glad to help you.

    Please share this:

    • Which version of Internet Explorer?
    • Which FTP site are you trying to open?

This issue can be caused, when you try to access the FTP site from behind a Web proxy firewall such as the Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server firewall.

If you are using Internet Explorer to access the FTP site, I would suggest you check the Internet Explorer FTP client settings.

How to change the Internet Explorer FTP Client mode

    • Start Internet Explorer.
    • Press the Alt key and On the Tools menu, click
      Internet Options
      .
    • Click the Advanced tab.
    • Under Browsing, click the Enable folder view for FTP sites check box.
    • Click OK.
    • Close Internet Explorer.
