Windows 11 does not recognize correct native resolution. Will not run HDR.

Windows 11 FASLEY claims my display is 1920 x 1080, THIS IS NOT TRUE. My setup is meant to have 3840 x 2160 as its native resolution, IT IS CAPABLE OF HDR. When I try to turn HDR on, it instantly turns off. Yes, my display can handle 4k it is an LG OLED TV. My TV is explicitly a 4k TV. Yes, my graphics card can handle 4k, it is a GeForce RTX 3090. Yes, my drivers are all up to date. Yes, I'm using the right HDMI cables. Yes windows 11 is up to date. I just did a factory reset that did not work either. Why is windows 11 not recognizing the correct resolution, and why is it preventing me from us

    :)

  2. Windows 11 - Native resolution not correct.

Thank you Greg for your response.

Yes I have also tried rolling back my Nvidia GeForce driver to an older version and it does the same, meaning that the GeForce Control panel will recognize that my selected display resolution of 5120 x 1440 is the native resolution however Windows 11 does not as Windows 11 believes 2560 x 1440 is the native resolution.

I just do not get it why Nvidia Control panel shows it correctly but Windows 11 thinks that the native resolution is a lower resolution of 2560 x 1440.

  3. Windows 11 - Native resolution not correct.

    Hello,

I have a Samsung 49" Odyssey G9 Gaming Monitor and using the monitor driver for DP.

This monitor native resolution is 5120 x 1440 which does show correctly in the Nvidia Control panel but NOT within the Windows 11 OS. Under Settings > Display Resolution it is showing 2560 x 1440 as the recommended resolution instead of 5120 x 1440.

I can still change the resolution in Windows 11 to 5120 x 1440 but when I open applications or games then those applications will attempt to lock my resolution down to 2560 x 1440.

My Nvidia driver is: 512.15 for my Geforce RTX 3080.

Thank you for any tips or advice.

    Rick

    HDR support for windows 11

Hi Nadeem. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

I would contact LG Support which is included with the monitor purchase for at least the first year, during which they must get it working properly or repair or replace it under warranty.

Try these troubleshooting steps for HDR monitor display in Windows 11:
