    Windows 11 download phone pictures into "date taken" directory


    In Windows 10, you could use file manager to download pictures and videos from your phone sorted into a directory with the date taken. That means all the pictures and videos taken on 4/1/2023 are placed into a directory 04-01-2023. That was a nice feature, allowing better origination of these images. In windows 11, that feature does not work and using photo application only does the image name, no organization. Anyone have a way to "do it the old way"?

    Photo App ignoring Date Taken of pictures

    I file my Pictures in folders for Year. Within the Year, pictures are filed by Date Taken.

    When I open the Photo App, the pictures are listed by Year, but not in Date Taken sequence.

    Win 10 up to date

    You missed the point entirely. The photos are not lost. Windows recently released an "update" which was a "downgrade". Previously, Windows Photos allowed one to download your iphone or camera photos taken on many different dates, and photos would create
    a separate directory for each date that photos were taken, and it would place the photos taken on that date into the appropriate dated directory.

    This instantly organized the downloaded photos into dated sub-directories within the Pictures main directory.

    The most recent Windows "update" took away the ability to do this, so we have been Banjaxed by Windows again. Now all the photos just get dumped loose into the "Pictures" folder with no organization whatsoever.

    Israel or Microsoft Windows, can you please give us back automatic photo downloads into dated directories again? It is a nightmare to sort the photos ourselves !

    Why download dates showing for pictures taken years ago? See more details section.

    Transfer the files to a PC and Look at "Date Created", "Date Modified", "Date Taken"

    In your pictures folder, Right Click > Point to Sort By > Select More

    Here you will find a list of Details. Select which Details you wish to view when viewing Photos
