Windows 10: Windows 11 duplicates jpg photos and the duplicates fill up the memory

I have 600,000 JPG photos on an 8 TB SSD internally installed drive. For some reason most photos are duplicated, some ten times. This fills up the memory with junk. It is not practical to delete the duplicate photos one by one, it would take years. I bought an app from a third party to find and remove the duplicates, it did not work. I have noticed that many people have this same problem. Microsoft tech support cannot help, I tried several times.

To remove the duplicates:

1. Right-click on a duplicate photo.
2. A context menu will open
3. Click on Delete.
4. The file will be sent to the Recycle Bin.

Deleting photos from Microsoft Photos will delete the files from the original location. However, Microsoft Photos will only display the photos from the folders that are added to Photos application. You can remove the folders from Microsoft Photos that
you don’t want. Follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Open Microsoft Photos app.
   
2. Click on the Ellipsis on the top right corner of the window and click on
   Settings.
   
3. Under Sources, remove the folder that has duplicate photos by clicking on
   X.
   

To remove the duplicate photos from the computer, please navigate to the location where the photos are saved and then you can delete the photos are duplicate.

Ultimate duplicate photo finder

Finding duplicate images is extremely hard . . .

It depends an the criteria the software uses to find duplicates, file name, file size, meta data, pixel to pixel comparison, visual similarity . . . etc.

So the questions I would ask of the software developer are:

• what criteria is that software using to compare images
• can you change the comparison criteria with that software

Ultimate Duplicate Photo Finder not being able to find duplicates is not a Windows issue, rather an issue with the software you are using, namely Ultimate
