Windows 10: Windows 11 Efficiency Mode Impacting Edge and Chrome Browsers - Cannot disable

I'm having issues where my Windows 11 Pro system always applies efficiency mode whenever I open a browser, and applying this mode to the browser results in horrible performance. This occurs regardless of whether I'm on battery or plugged in, and appears to occur regardless of the "Power Mode" setting under System > Power & Battery in the settings. This occurs for at least Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome browsers.What do I mean by horrible performance: If I take focus off the browser window and use another app for a bit, coming back to the browser window results in an unresponsive exp

"Efficiency" mode not just crippling Chrome in Windows 11

Hi Gavin, I am Paulo and I'd like to help.

This was a problem to me as well in Edge. I had hardware acceleration enabled but I still see Efficiency mode on processes under Edge most of the time. The only solution that worked for me was to put this command at the end of the Target field in Edge shortcut properties. This works for Chrome as well.

--disable-features=UseEcoQoSForBackgroundProcess

Chrome and Edge in Efficiency mode

I have a problem with google chrome and edge which if I use it for a long time and use a lot of tabs, chrome doesn't work and it goes into efficiency mode in the task manager, and if I open a new tab I try to browse it just spins

There are several reasons why Chrome or Edge may stop responding. This happens for many reasons; having too many tabs or windows open, using problematic extensions, or running an obsolete browser version can cause Edge to become unresponsive.

Please follow the below steps to try some troubleshooting.

Update Windows: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and click on "Check for updates" to ensure you have the latest updates installed.

Disable hardware acceleration: Try disabling hardware acceleration in the browser settings.

In Chrome, go to Settings > Advanced > System and disable "Use hardware acceleration when available."

In Edge, go to Settings > System and disable "Use hardware acceleration when available."

Reset your browser profiles: In Chrome, go to Settings > Advanced > Reset and Clean up > Reset settings. In Edge, go to Settings > Reset settings.

Do not open multiple Open Tabs and Windows if you do not have enough ram.

Clear your browser cache and cookies.
