Windows 11 "Efficiency Mode" is killing AutoCAD Architecture performance. When I am using AutoCAD, I don't care how much processor or memory I use. That is why I purchased a fast computer with a high-end processor and 128 Gigs of memory. But the makers of Windows 11 seem to know better than I do what my needs are. I do not want, do not need, and will do anything to eliminate efficiency mode, including switching to linux if I have to.Please tell me that this woke **** feature can be eliminated so I can get back to producing my work!!!!!!PS. I have a brand new computer and it now works like I bou

  2. Efficiency mode causing performance issue

Running autocad civil 3d since upgrading to windows 11 i cannot get efficiently mode to stop effecting the software and there is no off button. i have to go into details and change it to Realtime and windows reverts it back.

GIVE US A OFF BUTTON FOR EFFICIENCY MODE ALREADY!!!!!

half the things i would like to turn this mode off for the option is greyed out.

  3. Efficiency mode causing performance issue

    Hi, Shayne Hildebrand

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Efficiency mode, previously known as Eco mode, in Windows 11 is designed to limit the resources an application can use to help improve energy efficiency and reduce the system's overall resource usage. However, for resource-intensive applications like AutoCAD Civil 3D, this mode can indeed cause performance issues.

Here are some steps you can take to manage Efficiency mode for your applications:

    1. Power Plan Settings:
      • Go to 'Settings' > 'System' > 'Power & battery'.
      • Under 'Power mode', make sure it's set to 'Best performance'.
    2. Graphics Settings:
      • Go to 'Settings' > 'System' > 'Display' > 'Graphics'.
      • Browse for the AutoCAD Civil 3D executable or add it if it's not listed.
      • Once added, click on the application and choose 'Options'.
      • Set the graphics preference to 'High performance'.
    3. Registry Edit (Advanced, proceed with caution):
      • Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
      • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerThrottling.
      • Here, you can create or modify a DWORD value named PowerThrottlingOff and set it to 1 to disable power throttling globally. This is not recommended as it affects the entire system and can lead to higher power consumption and heat generation.

Disclaimer: Generally, modifying registry subkeys or work group is intended for advanced users, administrators, and IT Professionals. It can help fix some problems, however, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For further protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click How to back up and restore the registry in Windows - Microsoft Support to view the article.
Please note that changing system priorities and registry settings can have unintended consequences, so these actions should be taken with caution and ideally not on a machine critical for work without proper backups and understanding of the steps involved.

If there is anything not clear or I can't understand your problem, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Windows 11 "Efficiency Mode" is killing AutoCAD Architecture performance. How do I turn it...

    Efficiency mode causing performance issue

    I am running:

OS Name Microsoft Windows 11 Pro

    Version 10.0.22635 Build 22635

    I performed/verified the following:

    • Power Plan Settings:
      • Go to 'Settings' > 'System' > 'Power & battery'.
      • Under 'Power mode', make sure it's set to 'Best performance'.
    • Graphics Settings:
      • Go to 'Settings' > 'System' > 'Display' > 'Graphics'.
      • Browse for the AutoCAD Civil 3D executable or add it if it's not listed.
      • Once added, click on the application and choose 'Options'.
      • Set the graphics preference to 'High performance'.

However, my two applications of interest are Chrome and Google Drive which are in Efficiency Mode as indicated by the Task Manager. I performed the graphics settings verification with Chrome.

The Registry Key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerThrottling was not there by default.

I added the Key, and a DWORD PowerThrottlingOff, and set the value to 1. The machine was rebooted.

It did NOT turn off Efficiency Mode for these Apps or Processes as suggested, via process inspection in the Task Manager.
