Windows 10: Windows 11 File Explorer PC section of Navigation Pane Does Not Expand When A Folder Is...

After the cumulative update to 24H2, Microsoft did not fix an obvious problem in File Explorer. In the roll out of 24H2 you could not arrange the folders in the Quick Access section of the Navigation Pane. Well, the recent cumulative update fixed that. Thank you.However, they did not finish the job or they created a new bug I cannot tell at this point. When you click on a folder in the quick access section, the PC section is supposed to expand the PC section to that folder so there is context for what is displayed in the Details pane.Any solution for this?

I don't have Quick Access... it's removed on my computer. Maybe if you pin the Volume (E shortcut to Quick Access..... it will work on the left side. I don't know. Mine looks like this...

You may have to wait for someone that "uses" Quick Access and/or all those weird folders on the left side. I do all my navigating on the right side. First thing I do when I install Win 10 or 11... is remove all the weird folders in the Navigation Pane (left side). I don't like them. I don't see the need for them... etc. My Win 11 looks exactly the same... except for the ribbon bar...

File Explorer navigation pane sometimes expands to show all folders and sometimes consolidates shows only the selected folder

Both the folders that expand fully and those that partially expand have exactly the same settings, which are as you suggested, so this didn't solve the problem. Any other ideas?

 

Expand File Explorer Navigation Pane

Now and then I want to view the full folder tree in Navigation Pane of File Explorer. There are some options to keep the folder tree open, but most of the time they are a pain in the butt. When I do want the tree visible, I have to go to the root disk
and open each parent folder independently (generally at least half a dozen). Is there a quick way to ask window to open the tree, only when I want it shown?

I know there is an option to show all folders, but this makes the navigation pane un-navigable and useless

Another option is better, but becomes a nuisance when used all the time.

The handiest would be a right-click option to "Expand Folder Tree".
