Windows 10: Windows 11 file explorer's search and sorting by name is a mess

It choose to not find particular file names' fragments, while showing the other. I cant disclose the document names, but i have documents with like 64 characters. When i try to search for files in folder that have lets say 160 files, it succesfully shows files when i use "box" name fragment from "boxshot" word in it's name, but it wont find files when i use "shot" or "modified" from its suffix "-modified.jpg". Why? No idea. Yes made sure i dont make any typos or even attempt to search for special characters.And where is advanced search function? You simplify your OS to make it work like casual

Sorting with File Explorer.

I tried the method that was complicated (3rd option) but fell over in second step as I could not find any "apply to folder button"'.

However, the simple put *.* in search bar, then sort results windows by date does the trick. It is slightly cumbersome as I have to do that each time I am selecting files (to upload to sharepoint) but a lot less hassle than I was having to scroll up and down between sorted file block and sorted folder block.

There is a lot of files on a PC, and Windows system files will produce a lot of duplicates, which are required . . .

Open Windows File Explorer

Navigate to whatever drive or folder you want to search

In the search box at the top right, enter *.* and hit Enter, that will bring up a list of every file - it may be a very long list, you can then sort by file name to find duplicates . . .

 

File Explorer Search Not Working


I am trying to search in File Explorer (Windows Explorer, My Computer) and it will not find anything. I can copy text from a name in the list and paste it in the search box and it still finds nothing. I have looked at the suggestions that have been posted and nothing I find that is relative to this works. Anyone have any suggestions? I am running Win 10 Pro on an I3 coustom desktop computer.
