Windows 10: Windows 11 - files not working, apps crash upon opening, and PC takes hours to turn off

Hi so all of a sudden I have an issue with my PC that I have no idea what's causing it or how to fix it. Many of my apps simply stopped working and crash immediately upon opening - these include the Xbox app so now I can't play xbox games on my PC, the settings app so I can't adjust any settings, and any file I try to open through a pre-installed Windows app such as a photo viewer doesn't work instead I have to open it through firefox or something similar. When I turn my PC off it also takes hours despite being on the "Shutting down" screen it's not stuck on the screen saying x app is p

PowerPoint file crashes PowerPoint upon opening

since this happens in some of the computers only, suggest that you open the file on working computer and copy everything and paste to a new powerpoint file.
most of the time it works to me. *Smile

 

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Mail app will not open on 10041.

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it.

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

• Open powershell as administrator
• Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
• Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)
