Windows 10: Windows 11 freezes up with only mouse cursor working

The problem happens when I have Valorant game opened. When I try to tab out or tab in the game it would cause the whole screen to freeze aside from the fact the I can still move my cursor. The mouse cursor moves but I can't click anything. Freezes but mouse cursor and keyboard still work - must reboot

It happened again! This time, I was not watching a video. CPU temperature was about 20C.

Here's what I had open:

• Two Microsoft Word (an old XP version) windows
• Two Chrome windows with lots of tabs
• Microsoft OneNote, the desktop app

If I could describe the problem, it would probably be that I can move the mouse cursor but not click on something. I supposed freeze is seeming like the wrong way to describe this now. It's so weird.

I'm going to try a different tactic now focusing on the mouse. I have X-Mouse Button Control installed. Next time the freeze happens, I'm going to check if this program can detect any button pushes. I'm using a Logitech M705 mouse. I don't see any drivers on Logitech's page, but there is a firmware update for the wireless receiver that I will install. Any other tips for checking the mouse?

This is the original post on Dec 22, 2022:

• New build PC. Mouse will occasionally freeze and is jittery while frozen. Switching to a different mouse has no affect. I use a Kensington Expert wireless trackball but I have tried removing it and it's associated software. Removed it from Device manager. It still happens with a simple USB mouse. All mouse's (mice?) have been removed from Device Manager and PC restarted with the plain USB mouse. It still happens. I have gone through all the troubleshooting steps that I can find in Google searches. I suspect that some program will occasionally pop up and conflict with any mouse and cause this issue.

Nicole Aljecera was helping me and she advised doing an in-place upgrade repair per this: which I did and it seemed to work for a while. (Thanks Nicole!).

The issue has now returned. I tried doing the Windows repair as before with no luck. I've now upgraded to Win 11 in hopes that it might solve it but it didn't.

It only happens for a while after first start up of the day and seems to go away after a while. It really looks like some program in the background is activating and conflicting with the cursor.

Is there any log file that I can look at to try and identify whether this is the case?
