Windows 10: Windows 11 freezing crashing only when idle. BITS and Volume shadow copy disable stops...

I have had the same Windows 11freezing up when idle issues. Looking at event viewer to find the culprit I tried disabling Volume Shadow copy and BITS services and the freezing seems to have stopped. I think they should not be disabled. What should I do to further clear up this issue?I tried all the suggestions on this forum such as scanning memory and checking for corrupted files etc. I also upgraded old hardware and drivers but that did not help.

I suggest you to start the Volume shadow copy service and check. Follow these steps:

a. Click Start and type services.msc in the search box.

b. Search for the Volume shadow copy service and make sure the start- up type is automatic.

i. Right click on the service

ii. If the service is stopped, then Start the service

iii. Select Properties

iv. And in the Start-up type select Automatic.

c. Click Ok.

Windows Defender incorrectly reports threat in Volume Shadow Copy

I think you misread my question.

I did what you suggest immediately after I first downloaded the file.

The problem is NOT that the file itself gets flagged -- it does not as it is in the exclusions list.

The problem is that the exclusions list applies to the absolute path to the file.

What Windows Defender is complaining about is the COPY of the file that is present in the Volume Shadow Copy, NOT the original file.

There appears to be no way to tell Windows Defender to ignore the COPY of the file in the Volume Shadow Copy. Then, every time my backup program (Retrospect) runs, Windows Defender detects the file IN THE VOLUME SHADOW COPY and complains.

Took following corrective steps:

1. Disabled Antivirus and Firewall

2. Turned "Volume Shadow Copy tgo "Automatic"

3. Checked for "Hard Drive Errors"

The above procedures did not resolve the problem
