Windows 10: Windows 11 Home suddenly erased my local device login.

I've been using the same device for over a full year. However, Windows Hello suddenly came in yesterday and wrecked everything. My laptop's normal device login was completely removed and I was told to setup a PIN. I went through the steps to disable this entirely, but now, I can no longer use my original login and am stuck using my Microsoft login instead, which I don't want to have to use in place of a 4 digit password I've been using since last year. Searches have come up with no solution. Not even remotely. Anyone got some idea of how to undo the damage Windows Hello did?

Local user disappeared frin login options after upgrade

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I was unable to fix the issue. Here are my steps:

• I've uninstalled the last 3 updates (the ones from september):
  
  • however, they keep getting reinstalled:
    

• I've added two new users: one from the GUI, the other as you suggested in step 2:
  
  • They are listed under users;
    
• I've also booted in safe mode just to check.
  

I still have no way to login other than with the main account. No local users are available at login or when I go to start menu and click on my user.

Please advise

Hello,

I suggest you to create a PIN for your device and try the on screen keyboard to login to the same.

You may follow the steps below to create PIN protection for your device.

• 
  Go to Settings and select account.
  
• 
  Click on sign in option and Go to PIN option.
  
• 
  Now click on Add and set PIN for login.
  

You can use the same PIN to login to your device using the on screen Keyboard from ease of access option and verify the result.

Finally! An alternative to eraser...

it looks much cleaner then the eraser so that is a big step up.
