Windows 10: Windows 11 home will not allow me to browse to picture and use it as a background.

Windows Home seems to be unable to process any external image as background. It will not allow me to browse to picture and use it as a background. Every time I select an image except the 4 default ones that came with windows, the system pauses for 1-2 seconds as though it is processing but then the background type resets to solid color. I have tried .jpg .png and .bmp formats from various sources and with various image sizes from 1024x1024 through 3840 x 2160. All get the same behavior of the background type resetting to solid color. I'm running Win11 22H2 on a 1.10GHz Pentium Silver N5

I would suggest you to try the following steps:

• 
  Open Desktop Background by right clicking on the desktop clicking Personalization
  
• 
  Click the picture or color that you want to use for your desktop background.
  
• 
  If the picture you want to use isn't in the list of desktop background pictures, click an item in the Picture location list to see other categories, or click Browse to search for the picture on your computer.
  When you find the picture that you want, double-click it. It will become your desktop background.

• Highlight Background and scroll down toward the bottom and click Browse.
• Select the picture or photo to set as background.

changing the background images

In order to help you better, could you please confirm a couple of things.

• Have you made any changes on the computer prior to the issue?
• Are you referring to desktop background image or lock screen image?

I suggest you to follow the below steps to change the background picture and check if it helps.

• In the search type as ‘Settings’ and click on it.
• Select ‘Personalization’, under ‘Background’ option select as ‘Picture’.
• Under ‘Choose your picture’ select any picture accordingly or you can browse the picture from your computer.
