The October/November MS update has pretty much rendered my laptop useless for business purposes. I tried to uninstall, but Windows senses the outstanding updates and reinstalled upon restart. How do I roll back this update and ensure that the change sticks?

October 2023 Windows Update made computer unusable and slow

October 11 2023 update to a Windows 10 on a laptop: Laptop is crippled.

It is now so slow and so bad, I am not sure but I might have to go purchase a new laptop.

This was lightening fast, yesterday, before the update.

    Latest update seems to be KB5001716 KB5031356 KB5031224 KB5031900

    On Windows 10 Version 22H2

I use this machine 98 percent on the internet for web based work. It has become unusable.

This post is made from different machine.

I could go back to a restore point, I could uninstall updates, but the problem is, eventually the updates will have to happen.

It just delays a problem, it does not solve the problem.

Although this laptop is lightening quick and performed well before the update, it has never been Windows 11 capable according to the

updater. All my other laptops are on Windows 11 now.

Interestingly, during startup after update it hijacked many more things than usual. I cannot opt-out of the intrusive data collection that you used to be able to opt-out of during an update reboot. I do suspect that is part of the problem, and that I prefer Chrome, and Microsoft system seems to be fighting me and preventing Chrome from working well. When I attempted to download latest Chrome just now... Windows says 8 hours to download.

  3. October 2023 Windows Update made computer unusable and slow

    Hello,

I experienced a similar issue with slowness on my computer. A few days ago, my PC unexpectedly rebooted, and upon restarting, it prompted me with notifications about new services, almost as if it were a "Windows Update." Subsequently, the slowness appeared to have diminished. However, this morning, the performance deteriorated significantly, taking nearly five minutes to open Google Chrome.

Upon conducting a more thorough investigation, I discovered that there were no new updates available for my Windows 10 operating system. That's when I stumbled upon the "Troubleshoot Settings" menu, and I decided to explore it further. I managed to resolve my slowness issue by following these steps:

    1. Search for "Troubleshoot Settings"
    2. After it eventually opens (which took around five minutes in my case), click on "Additional Troubleshooters."
    3. I selected "Search and Indexing" and initiated a repair. It may prompt you to run it again with administrative privileges.
    4. When asked for a description, I simply entered "slow," and miraculously, my issues seemed to be resolved.

I hope this helps you address your slowness problem as well.
